– Time For A Tiara: Column by Ginna Young – - That one looks like a sheep!

That one looks like a sheep! That one looks like a sheep!
Every week, on Page 2 of the paper (look to the left of this), we run a poll question, that we asked on our Facebook page, along with the results of the previous week’s poll. People vote on the Facebook post, by “reacting,” with a heart (yes) or an angry face (no). “Likes” and comments don’t count. We do this poll, to get more engagement from our readers and potentially, attract new ones, through the world of social media, to our printed pages To be honest, though, we’ve agreed it’s hard sometimes, to come up with a poll question. It can’t be too wordy or people lose interest, and we have to make sure it’s phrased right, to make sense while you’re reading it. Normally, we try to coincide with an event that’s happening, like, “Do you like stuffing?” Obviously, that’s around Thanksgiving time, or “Did you watch the ball drop?” Again, that one is pretty obvious, but just in case you didn’t get it, that’s New Year’s Eve in Times Square. This last week, we were stuck. Wait, we just had the 4th of July, and the Northern Wisconsin State Fair is coming up, maybe we could do something along those lines. Did you watch fireworks? Done it. Do you like funnel cake? Done it. Nothing came to mind, that we haven’t done and would make sense. And like every single week, when the question is posed, if I have an idea for a poll, I provide an answer, but it’s always shot down. “Do I look fabulous in a tiara?” and “Aren’t I amazing?” Never get a nibble on those, but I keep trying. If you want to see one (or both) of those poll questions in, please email joydain@centralwinews. com and let your wishes be known! Anyway, we couldn’t come up with anything and, discouraged, I propped my chin on my hand and stared out the window. It was a beautiful day, and I think it was the first time I’d looked out the window – I mean, REALLY looked – I was so busy typing along. The sky was this brilliant shade of blue, the sun was golden, the grass was so green and the white, fluffy clouds lazily floated along. It made me smile and think of when I was growing up, and even into my 20’s. I’d spread an old flat bed sheet (preferably full size, so I could fling half of it over me for a cover) out on the ground, in the shade and lay down, looking up at those fluffy clouds. Occasionally, I’d spot shapes in the clouds, like a bear dancing, an elephant trumpeting or a fish of some sort. Usually, I’d be so comfortable, and unhurried and unbothered by anything, that I’d doze off. Man, that was the best nap I ever had, when I’d do that. The breeze would lightly tickle my face, the birds would chirp quietly and the bees would buzz around my prone body, visiting the blooming clover in the yard. It was just so peaceful. That happy memory gave me the idea for a poll. Have you ever laid out on a blanket and looked up at the clouds? Maybe it’s not the most cutting edge question or the deepest thinking one, but if you’ve ever done so, you’ll be instantly transported back to a simpler time. Maybe, like what happed to me, it will bring a smile to your face. Thinking of those times made me want to run right out and spread a sheet on the ground, to cloud watch and maybe have a good snooze in the shade. The only thing keeping me from it, was that I’m not sure I could get back up again, afterward!
