Patricia A. “Pat” Deml


1937-2022 Patricia A. ”Pat” Deml, 85, of Medford, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 27, 2022 at Our House Assisted Living in Medford. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 18 at the church. Pat was born March 17, 1937 in Medford to Francis “Frank” and Frances (Gaab) Baumgartner. She grew up in Medford, where she attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Medford High School in 1955. She then took employment at Mutual Insurance in Wausau. In January of 1956, she returned to Medford and worked for Medford Motors as a bookkeeper and secretary for two years. On Sept. 8, 1956, she married Henry “Hank” Deml at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. They resided in Medford where Pat’s next years were spent enjoying her five wonderful sons and helping on the mink ranch. In her early 50’s, she went back to work as a teller at Mid Wisconsin Bank for 11 years until her retirement. In her younger years, Pat did volunteer work at Holy Rosary Rectory, Church and School. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, sewing, cooking, gardening, going to their Lake Esadore cottage in the summers, skiing in the winter, trips to the casino, and most of all, her growing family. What a blessing to have. After retirement, she spent some time helping her parents and took other elderly to appointments. She was a Grandma Reader for the middle school, a Red Hatter, and played cards for Memorial Hospital in their card club. She was also a member of the Holy Rosary Ladies Society. Pat and Hank lived in the town of Little Black for 64 years. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Hank of Medford; five sons, John (Jeannie) Deml, Steve (Patti) Deml, all of Medford, Tom (Amy) Deml of Little Falls, Minn., Paul Deml of Medford, Doug (Jessica) Deml of Cameron Park, Calif.; a sister, Joanne Schuster of Medford; a brother, Mike (Cathy) Baumgartner of Wausau; in-laws, Agnes Robida, Mary Deml, Mary Jane Deml, Theoma Deml, Ray and Janet Deml; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gerald, David and Robert Baumgartner; Hank’s parents; in-laws, Andy, Joe, and Romie Deml, Madlin (Marc) Kulig, Mary Emmerich Molitor and Lee Schuster; and a granddaughter, Laura Lyn Deml. Eugene “Ole” D. Olson


1938-2022 Eugene “Ole” D. Olson, 84, of Medford, passed away on Dec. 22, 2022 at Abbotsford Health Care under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Eugene was born on Aug. 9, 1938 to Casper Sr. and Alma (Nelson) Olson in the township of Chelsea. He attended Perkinstown Elementary School, Hannibal High School, and graduated from Medford High School. He married Judy Brink on Jan. 30 1960 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford; she survives. Eugene worked various jobs throughout his life, but he worked at Hurd Millwork for 40 years until his retirement in 2004. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, baseball, football, woodworking, and bowling. Eugene is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Robin (Byron) Mallo and Scott (Liz) Olson, both of Medford; grandchildren, Ryann (Steve) Mallo-Isaak, Brandon (Chelsea Zak) Mallo, and Zach (Jen) Olson; great-grandchildren, Grayson Scott Mallo, Stevie Dawn Isaak, and Paislee Mae Mallo; brother, Edwin Olson of Wales; sister-in-law, Shirley Olson of Withee. Eugene is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dawn Olson in 2015; sisters, Doris Faude and Katherine Singleton; brothers, Alvin and Casper Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Eugene’s name may be given to the family for use at a later date. 1950-2022 Lynn “Hun Bun” Marie Steen, age 72, of Medford, passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. A funeral service will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. Friends and family may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. She was born Feb. 9, 1950 to the late Carl and Emma Karow in Athens. Lynn was united in marriage to Ray Steen Jr. in Medford on Dec. 14, 1971. They were married 51 years. Lynn had various jobs and was a homemaker raising her family. Lynn loved to visit with people. She always had a humorous story to tell. She enjoyed her trips with her daughter also her sister and friends. She also enjoyed her shopping trips to Appleton. Lynn enjoyed her flower gardens and liked watching the birds with her morning cup of coffee. Lynn is loved and missed by her husband, Ray of Medford; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Radtke of Rothschild; son, James Steen (Kathryn Gentile); grandson, Hank Steen of Medford; sister, Cheryl “Bubbles” (Tony) Eckert of Medford; brother-inlaw, Vic Nowak of Milwaukee; sisters-in-law, Mary Tessmer and Moony Tessmer, both of Athens. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Eugene Dieter

Eugene Dieter


1939-2022 Eugene Dieter, 83, of Rib Lake, formerly of Richland Center/Boaz; passed away on Thursday Dec. 22, 2022, at home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Burial will be held in the Boaz Cemetery with military graveside rites to be conducted by the Local Military Memorial Honors Unit. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. A livestream of the service will be available at the Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service website. He was born on Feb. 4, 1939, the second of ten children; to Rubert and Lucreda (Propp) Dieter in Richland Center. Eugene served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 being stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado, Fort Hood in Texas, and Fort Knox in Kentucky. On Feb. 22, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary (Anderson) Dieter. Together they moved to Kenosha and had one son, Royce. Eugene started his auto career at Union Street Body Shop in Richland Center, continued with AMC Chrysler in Kenosha, and came to a pinnacle when together with his wife and son, they opened Dieter Auto Body in Boaz which was in service from 19872019. Eugene could often be found chasing down parts, socializing with various vendors, and taking coffee breaks. He was very proud of the business they created. Eugene had a love for life. His senior yearbook quote was fittingly “You’re only young once.” Many times, his family would shake their heads at his antics. He had a passion for cars, snowmobiles, and the water. He spent a lot of time camping in De Soto, on the Mississippi River with his family and loved taking trips in his boat up and down the river. Eugene was also an active member of various snowmobile clubs and took trips to South Dakota and Wyoming to ride sleds in the mountains in addition to uncountable trips to northern Wisconsin. In August 2014, Eugene bought a lake home on Spirit Lake in northern Wisconsin. On the day he became the official owner, he told his granddaughter that he never thought he would be able to give his family the gift of a lakefront home to enjoy forever. Eugene quickly began to consider Spirit Lake his new home and was given the unofficial title of the “Mayor of Spirit Lake” as he would cruise around the lake in his Ford Model A just “checking things out.” Eugene is survived by his son Royce (Melissa) Dieter of Rib Lake; granddaughter, Heather (Zachary) Thome of Richland Center, grandson, Nicholas (Vincent Suha) Pauls of Madison; and great-granddaughters, Clara and Emma Thome. He is further survived by his siblings, Rose (Ted) Barry, Dennis (Dianne) Dieter, Robert (Sue) Dieter, Alvin (Linda) Dieter, Gary (Deb) Dieter, Dianna (Kirk) Kepler, David (Cindy) Dieter, Lynda Smith and Darrell Dieter; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rubert and Lucreda; his wife, Mary; brothers-in-law, Gene Anderson, Jay Anderson, and Tom Smith; sisters-inlaw, Marie Anderson and Phyllis Anderson; nephew, Rick Anderson; niece, Jennifer Laue; other relatives and friends. Yvonne “Coffee” Johnson


1957-2022 Yvonne Rosalie Johnson, aka “Coffee”, age 65, of Ogema, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston, following a short illness. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 29, at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford with the Rev. Paul Woods officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. Yvonne was born Dec. 13, 1957, in Illinois to Oris and Roene Smith. From a young age, Yvonne had a zest for living life her way and without a doubt she did everything on her terms. She had a passion and deep love for living life, she enjoyed spending time with her large and ever-growing family of 6 children, 31 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, with more little ones on the way. Family was so important to her. She loved flowers and her gardens were something that brought her great enjoyment. She was known for her incredible ability to bring laughter and smiles to everyone, no matter the situation. She used humor and laughter to cope and ease her through the rough and unpleasant times. She loved to make you smile and even if it was a quick text or funny emoji, she strived to make every day a good day. She will be remembered for her love of dragons, completing puzzles and diamond paintings. She possessed a love for animals, feeding strays, that quickly became some of her most treasured companions. She enjoyed fishing and taking trips to admire nature, especially waterfalls. Yvonne obtained four separate degrees including: Associate of Arts in Business Administration, Medical Billing and Coding; Bachelor of Business Administration, Healthcare Management; Master of Healthcare Management; and Master of Business Administration, Human Resources Management. Yvonne lived a life that was not free from heartbreak, she lost the first love of her life, KC Haring on April 24, 1998, due to a motorcycle accident. In 2002, she met her soulmate and life partner, Gary Fox and spent the next 20 years with him before he lost his battle with cancer on Sept. 14, 2022. She will be greatly missed and forever treasured by her children, Jeremy (Jennifer) Somers of Tomahawk, Joey (Camron) Bybee of Mosinee, Mike Somers (Leanne) of Irma, Jennifer (Stephen) Radtke of Birnamwood, Christina (Ben) Noland of Grants Pass, Ore., and Rosalie (Dustin) Baitinger of Ogema; brothers Mike (Laddie) Smith and David Smith; 31 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way. She is further survived by Gary’s parents Everett and Ruth Fox. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oris and Roene Smith; a sister, Becky Smith; KC Haring; a grandson, Codi Beck; and her life partner, Gary Fox.
