W. F. Wenck went over to Perkinstown Monday, returning Tuesday. He says that he never saw Perkinstown and vicinity look as well as it does now, and that he never saw rasp berries so large or in such great quantities as he found them in that vicinity.
100 Years Ago August 6, 1925 Vessly and Kiger Capture Check Forger
E. E. Vessley and I. P. Kiger trapped a fellow at Westboro Saturday and thus put an end to the passing of bad checks which had been going on in this part of the state for several weeks. But for their headwork and planning the fellow might still be at large and passing his checks.
When caught the forger, who gave his name as Russell Bogard, had a stack of First National Bank of Antigo checks an inch thick, and also had checks on the Bank of Athens, Westboro State Bank, First National and State Banks of Medford, and a bank at Iron Mountain, Michigan.

August 3, 1950 Midway Installs 100 Line Board
Switchboard Panel Is For Increased Traffic Midway Telephone company went into the 600 line series this week when a new 100 line switchboard panel was installed into service to handle the greatly increased telephone traffic in this area. Medford, Stetsonville, and Dorchester patrons will soon be accustomed to the new number series with the digit “six.”

July 31, 1975 Area School District Voters Approve Building Elementary School in Stets
Construction of an elementary school building to house grades kindergarten through five at Stetsonville was approved by voters of the Medford area school district Monday night. Also approved was the purchase of the school site in Stetsonville and a budget calling for a levy of $1,418,748, representing an increase over the previous levy by $128,268.

For the first time, the drags are coming to the Medford area. The mud drags will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 5 at the rodeo grounds across from Pure Country, located on Hwy 64, about four miles west of Medford.

Move to third-party vendor would free city hall staff time for other work The city of Medford is considering outsourcing its utility billing as a way to cut costs.
At Monday’s committee of the whole meeting, city coordinator John Fales gave aldermen the background about why city staff is exploring this option.
For Fales, it comes down to cost. The city’s existing equipment used for sending out approximately 2,000 utility bills each month is 10 years old and is costing about $200 each month to maintain.
