‘Trump appears to be doing Putin’s bidding’

Kelly Passo-Fasel

President Trump is withholding the delivery of weapons to Ukraine again.

Trump promised to end the Ukraine war even before taking office, but Russia’s attacks have only intensified since his inauguration.

Contrary to his promises, Trump appears to be doing Putin’s bidding:

•Blaming Ukraine, not Russia, for the war that Russia started.

•Suggesting a “peace plan” likely authored by Russia, amounting to Ukraine’s surrender.

•Imposing tariffs on all countries except Russia.

•Pushing for Russia’s readmission to the G7.

•Withholding congressionally approved weapons for Ukraine.

Trump has also seemed to profit from Russia’s help:

•Receiving financial lifelines from Russian sources in the 1990s after multiple bankruptcies.

•Benefiting from Russia’s hacking and leaking of HillaryClinton’scampaign materials, which he openly asked Russia to find.

•Gaining from Russia’s financing of Trump-friendly influencers (Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, Benny Johnson) to shape U.S. opinion.

Meanwhile, the bipartisan Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 (SRA2025), which would increase economic pressure on Russia, has been stalled in the Senate for months.

Ukraine is defending itself and democratic values against an authoritarian aggressor. I urge our lawmakers to push hard and fast for strong sanctions on Russia and to deliver the assistance Ukraine needs to resist Putin’s aggression—even over Trump’s objections.
