It’s recommended that Wisconsinites reduce their time outdoors, because of ongoing air quality advisories, resulting from Canadian wildfire smoke. Smoke is moving from the northwest to the southeast, across the state.

Health impacts are expected to reach the UNHEALTHY level, with short-term spikes of VERY UNHEALTHY levels possible.

People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children, should consider making outdoor activities shorter and less intense, and reduce heavy exertion. Consider rescheduling or moving events indoors.

To protect oneself from the smoke effects, close doors and windows, and avoid activities that increase indoor pollution, such as vacuuming, frying food, burning candles or using gas-powered appliances.

It would also be wise to install a high-efficiency air filter and use an N95 mask, if outdoors for long periods.

Air quality advisories are expected to continue through the summer, as wildfires continue to occur.
