Two Disney favorites are offered by choir students

The Lake Holcombe choir department is presenting free, back-to-back musicals to the public, Monday, May 6. The middle school musical will take place at 6 p.m., followed by a brief awards ceremony for middle school and high school choirs.

Then, at 7 p.m., the high school choir will take the stage.

Disney’s The Lion King KIDS is the first production playing. The 30-minute musical, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film.

The middle school cast contains approximately 40 students, led by director Shaylae Szotkowski. The musical tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub, named Simba, as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king.

Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters, including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon and lovable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands, Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar.

Following that, is Disney’s Moana JR. The 60-minute musical adventure, designed for young performers, is based on the 2016 Disney film. The high school cast and crew includes 30 students, again led by Szotkowski.

Join Moana in a thrilling and heartwarming stage adaptation of the coming-of-age, as she sets sail across the Pacific, to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. She and the demigod Maui, embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie, as Moana learns to harness the power that lies within.
