Cadott fourth through sixth-grade students in Ed and Pat Lenard’s advanced biking class, take part in the Tour de Cadott, logging 80 miles on trails across the Chippewa Valley. The students met with the teachers daily, to go over rules of the road, safety and hand signals, before they hit the pavement.
20 Years Ago – 2000
Cornell Fire Chief Denny Klass reports that the department has purchased a jaws of life device to extract people trapped in vehicle accidents, after $9,000 was contributed from the community toward the needed equipment.
30 Years Ago – 1990
Cloverleaf Farm Supplies adds another leaf to the Cadott business, as owner Larry Janssen joins with Tom Randall, Augusta, to open a new venture at the former Augusta Oil and Feed location.
40 Years Ago – 1980
A proposal is brought forward to charter the Bank of Cornell, located on the corners of First and Main streets. The groundwork has been ongoing for several months, after many farmers and businessmen expressed interest in the charter.
50 Years Ago – 1970
Sgt. Allen S. Zaruba, Cadott, 438th MAW Headquarters Squadron, graduates from the Non-Commissioned Officers Leadership School in New Jersey, with the highest GPA in the class and an Honor Graduate Award.
60 Years Ago – 1960
The Aid Association for Lutherans (St. John’s in Cornell) hosts a community picnic at Brunet Island State Park, with free ice cream and pop, and prizes for all at the potluck event.
100 Years Ago – 1920
Train Master A. P. Congon, Spooner, visits Cornell, for a look at the affairs of the C., M. St. P. & O Railway. Congon’s primary reason for visiting, was to map out a place for the addition of a new switch engine to the local yards, which he believes will be a permanent fixture, with the amount of work to be done at the rail yards.
