Granton Village hires new clerk/ treasurer, waterworks operator

The Village of Granton has a new clerk/treasurer and a new head of the village waterworks to replace former waterworks operator and temporary clerk/ treasurer Jared Thomas, who announced his resignation earlier this spring. Cole Minsaas has been hired as the new clerk/ treasurer and Ryan Wieselman has been hired as the new head of the village waterworks.
Minsaas — a native of Chili — has been at the position of clerk/treasurer since May 12, while Wieselman — a native of southern Milwaukee — has been on the job since June 9, both learning the ropes from Thomas. For the past year, the village has struggled to retain an employee in the clerk/treasurer position and the role had been taken on by Thomas since December on top of his

Minsaas comes to the clerk/treasurer position with some background in administration. He went to high school in Marshfield graduating in 2019. After that, he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from UW-Stevens Point and went on for his master’s degree in public administration at UW-Milwaukee. While working for his master’s degree, Minsaas was an administrative intern for Milwaukee County Parks. He has also worked for the City of Marshfield in its parks/recreation department, and will continue to do so until August.
“I wanted to come back home,” he said on the decision to come to work at Granton. “I saw this and I saw it was close to home and so I applied for it.”
Wieselman is a 2000 Hamilton High School graduate, with a background in maintenance and plant operations. Currently residing in Marshfield, Wieselman is in the process of completing the certification courses needed for the waterworks position, taking the first of his tests on what he will need to know for the role in the next few weeks. As the new waterworks operator, he will be making quite a few rounds through the village as he goes about his duties, and he hopes people will not be afraid to say ‘hi’ as he does his work.
“When people see me, don’t be afraid to say ‘Hi,’” he said. “I’m a personable person.”
With the new staff, there is a temporary change in office hours for the village. The village office will now be open from 12-6 p.m. until August, when the hours will return to the regular 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. time.
