Granton loses new school administrator after one month

After one month of working as the district administrator for the Granton Area School District, the Granton School Board received notice last week that Dennis Kaczor will be leaving the district in pursuit of another position. Left without an administrator so close to the start of the 2020-21 school year, the Board met in a special session on July 27 to discuss its options on finding a replacement.

Last week, Kaczor informed the Board that he had accepted a position as principal of Hillcrest Elementary School for the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District. He will begin his duties at the new district on Aug. 3, about one month after starting his work at the Granton Area School District.

“It’s really a timing issue,” he said on his decision to leave Granton. “The other position has things or items the Granton district doesn’t have or can’t have. There will be a difference in stress level and other (administrative duties) will be limited.”

With Kaczor leaving, the Granton Board met to see what it could do to fill the position of district administrator. As a result of that meeting, Granton School Board president Theresa Hasz said the district will be looking for an interim administrator to help keep things together for the year.

“We as a board are going to pursue an interim administrator, that was our direction last night (July 27),” she said. “We are going to reach out to retired administration to see if they will be willing to help us.”

Hasz said she hopes to fill the position of administrator within the next few weeks.

“It will be a one year interim position, we will post the job again in the spring,” she said. “We wanted to make sure we would have a good candidate pool, right now it’s not as good as we would hope.”

For now, Hasz said the Board is looking at a couple interim candidates that she said would be able to help the district immensely as it looks forward to starting the school year.

“The two that are on our radar now are respected individuals, they would help us immensely,” she said.
