n December 10 - An officer was dispatched to an apartment in the city of Colby for a disturbance that was not in progress. The caller stated his wife had been in an argument with the downstairs neighbor and wished to speak with an officer. The officer arrived and stood outside of the apartment and observed a female yelling from the inside. The officer met with the caller who said the downstairs neighbors were banging on the walls all night. The man said, “ What do you do, you kind of stomp back at them.” The man said that night after they stomped back, a loud, verbal argument occurred between his wife and the female downstairs.

The man said the issue actually started that morning when they heard the male individual from the apartment below outside at 5:00 a.m. The caller said they yelled at the man and asked him what he was doing and the man said he was hanging Christmas lights from their balcony. The caller said they later went out and removed the lights from the balcony.

The caller said things have gotten to a point where his wife wants to fight with the neighbor downstairs and he would not let that happen. The officer went to speak with the caller’s wife and she said the banging from downstairs is non-stop. the woman also stated the female neighbor had previously broken into her residence and it forced her to call law enforcement. However, law enforcement did not do anything which is why she did not want her husband to call the cops. The woman made more accusations about drug use and constant threats coming from the downstairs neighbor. The woman eventually asked the officer to speak with the neighbors downstairs and said she knew she was in the wrong for yelling.

The officers then made contact with the downstairs neighbors who wanted it to be known that this is the first time she had retaliated back towards the upstairs neighbors. The downstairs neighbors told officers that they believed the noise they were making was not excessive. They also said their upstairs neighbors had cut their Christmas lights earlier that day. They did not want to press charges for the damage to the lights. The officer warned both parties stating that any repeated arguments would result in a citation. The officer also told both parties that any future complaints need to be filed with law enforcement.

n December 10 - An officer received a phone call from an Abbotsford resident who said there was a lot of noise coming from an Abbotsford establishment. The caller said the bass from the music was very loud and could be felt. The officer told the caller he would check on the noise level.

The officer exited the police department walked into the parking lot and observed the music playing from inside of the building to be very loud from the exterior. The officer also heard and felt the bass from the music from the outside and determined the music level to be in violation of Abbotsford City ordinance.

The officer entered the establishment, made contact with the staff and asked them to get the owner for him. A few minutes later the owner made contact with the officer near the entrance. The officer informed the owner that a noise complaint was filed and the officer deemed the noise to be too loud.

The officer advised the owner that he would be issuing her a citation for loud and unnecessary noise. The owner said she understood and she was advised that additional citations could be issued in the future if the noise is not controlled appropriately. The owner said she would talk with the event staff to turn the music level down.
