Cary Podevels

Cary Lee Podevels, age 64, passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.

He was born on October 14, 1961, in Wood County, Wisconsin, to the late Harold and Frieda (Giese) Podevels.

Cary graduated from Colby High School with the Class of 1979. Following high school, he proudly joined the National Guard. He later worked as an overthe- road truck driver, a career that suited his independent spirit and love of the open road.

Cary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed many adventures. He loved riding his Harley, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, hunting and fishing. He was also exceptionally talented with his hands and took great pride in building and creating things himself. He custom built living quarters inside his pole shed, designing a beautiful circular log staircase and creating an impressive epoxy countertop.

Cary also enjoyed working in his garden and took great pride in growing the most impressive sunflowers.

Later in life, he decided to sell his home and land and purchase an RV, beginning a new chapter filled with travel and adventure. He especially loved traveling out west, first stopping in Colorado before continuing on to Arizona. He often traveled alongside his brother Dean, who would make the journey in his own RV.

Cary will be remembered as a good man with a great sense of humor. He had a friendly, easygoing nature and never met a stranger. His adventurous spirit, creativity, kindness and stories will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Cary is survived by his siblings: Dean Podevels, Barbara Robinson and Karla Podevels; as well as his niece and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Frieda Podevels.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home, 203 N. 4th Street, Abbotsford. Pastor Nancy Amacher presided. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Cary lived life on his own terms, embraced adventure and found joy in the simple things. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
