Diane Kay Thompson


Diane Kay Thompson, 79, Rice Lake, formerly of Cornell, died Friday, April 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, at Dove Health-Care in Rice Lake.
Diane was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Chippewa Falls, to Joseph and Agnes (Saxe) Buresh.
She graduated from Cornell High School, in 1966.
Diane was married to Dennis Thompson, Jan. 21, 1967, at Faith Baptist Church in Cornell.
She was a meter reader, worked at the Cornell nursing home, did in-home daycare and also cleaned many homes.
Diane loved to work on search-a-word, enjoyed watching games shows and winning on scratch-off tickets.
She loved watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Diane was a beautiful, sweet and kind woman, cared for others and her family, a very hard worker, and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart.
She is survived by her husband – Dennis Thompson; three children – Tammy (Jeff) Will, Teresa (Kelly) Ptacek and Brian Thompson; eight grandchildren – Kalie (Jordan) Amundson, Kelsey Will, Joseph (Jerusha) Will, Jessica (Derek) Parker, Jacob Fosbinder, Tabitha Thompson, Devon Thompson and Quinn Thompson; a stepgrandson – Kevin Ptacek; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreatgrandchildren; three sisters – JoAnn Thoeny, June (Rick) Knez and Karen McGlothlin; and many nieces; nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a grandson – Justin Paul Will; a granddaughter – Angel Thompson; a great-grandson – Charles Joseph Broussard; and her parents – Joseph and Agnes Buresh.
Services were at noon, Wednesday, April 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Cornell, with the Rev. Bev Thompson officiating, with interment in the Cornell Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon, at the church, prior to the service.
Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to First Presbyterian Church in Cornell.
