Max Potter, 75, Gilman, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, in his home.

Max was born April 2, 1950, in Gilman, to Russel and Evelyn (Martin) Potter.

He worked at the Chrysler plant in Belvidere, Ill., for 30 years.

Max loved to play cribbage, shoot pool, was known for his hunting, fishing, love for horses and riding the wind on his Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his daughters – Michelle Potter, Dana Franzen (Corey) and Trina Holmes (David); grandchildren – Joshua Lafon (Holly), Katelyn Hamel (Matt), Nathan Potter (Elizabeth), Austin Franzen, Emily Holmes, Derek Holmes (Natilee), Gabe Franzen and Jacob Franzen; great-grandchildren – Summer, Macie, Amelia, Chloe, Leo, Elsie, Jameson and Brantley; significant other and caretaker – Judy Williams; children he loved as his own – Stewart Potter (Kristine), Billy Jo Anderson (Jake), Heidi Williams (Jesse); grandchildren, Wyatt, Colton, Bryce, Brook and Caleb; brothers and sisters – Dennis (Pat), Alan (Betty), Dale, Penny, Wayne (Karen), Judy, Kay (Glenn), Gail (TC), Bonny, Ross (Stephanie), Neal, Lynn (Will) and Kim (Jim).

He was preceded in death by parents – Evelyn and Russel Potter; brother – Gerald; and grandchild he loved as his own – Jake Hilger.

Loved beyond words, missed beyond measure. A celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Pershing Town Hall in Gilman, from noon to 4 p.m.
