Roger Allen Kvapil
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Roger Allen Kvapil, Friday, Sept. 19, 2025.
Born May 22, 1948, Roger lived a quiet life, but was always there for his loved ones.
He entered the United States Navy, after graduating from Cornell High School, and proudly served his country for 18 years, in both active duty and the reserves. Through dedication and hard work, he earned the rank of Chief Engineman, before retiring from military service.
Following his time in the Navy, Roger obtained a certificate in quality control precision inspection, which he applied throughout his professional career as a machine tool operator, quality control engineer and quality control supervisor.
One of Roger’s favorite pastimes, was cheering on the Green Bay Packers and following the Kvapil family in NASCAR racing. Whether it was game day or race day, he was always tuned in and rooting with pride.
Roger had a deep love for the outdoors and nature. He cherished time on the water, whether for a peaceful boat ride or a day of fishing. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and traveling to see the world. His passion for wildlife never faded and he recently found joy in caring for various wild animals in his backyard.
Card games were a staple at family gatherings, and few things delighted him more than overbidding and winning a hand. Roger also loved to read war books and cook. He was always eager to share his culinary skills with anyone willing to learn.
He was married to Linda Freagon and though they later divorced, he is survived by their three children, whom he loved dearly – Shannon Rutz (Nate), Shelley Crain (Bryan) and Luke Kvapil (Jessica); he was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, who brought him immense joy – Jason, Michael and Andrew Rutz, Riley, Matthew and Joshua Crain, and Keagan and McKayla Kvapil; six siblings – Dick Kvapil (Robyn), Tony Kvapil (Sheila), Lynn Kvapil Fischer (Dan Fischer), Jerianne Kvapil Rosin (Don Rosin), Kathy Phelps (Brian) and Nanc Kvapil (Dean Zaleski); and many cousins; nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Jerome and Evelyn Kvapil; his brother – Eugene Kvapil; nieces – Tina Kvapil McGee and Terra Barrus; and nephew – Jerry Fischer.
A celebration of Roger’s life is at the Big Drywood Lutheran Church in Cadott, Saturday, Oct. 25. Visitation takes place from 10-11 a.m., followed by a service, at 11 a.m.
Burial with military honors is at 11:45 a.m., with a fish fry in his honor, immediately following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, Roger’s children kindly ask that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in his memory, as a tribute to his service in the Navy.
