Ronald Matson

Ronald R. Matson, age 77, of Withee, passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at his home under the tender care of Heartland Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee with Rev. Elizabeth Bier officiating. Inurnment will be held at the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Lublin American Legion Post 547, Owen American Legion Post 123, Owen-Withee Vets Club, and Thorp VFW Post 9057. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

Ronald was born on Feb. 1, 1949, the son of Harold and Elizabeth (Derth) Matson. He graduated from Owen-Withee High School. On March 14, 1970, Ronald was united in marriage to Peggy Gehrke. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2013. Ronald served in the Army National Guard from 1974 to 1989.

Ronald was an over-the-road truck driver and auto mechanic. He enjoyed deer hunting, camping, and spending the winter in Shallowater, Texas.

Ronald is survived by his two sons: Fred of Neillsville and Greg of Withee; four grandchildren; a sister, Irene Shadrick; two brothers: Roger and Robert; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy; and his daughter, Melissa Matson.
