Darlene C. Nichols
Darlene C. Nichols passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Vita Care Assisted Living-Medford under the care of hospice on March 18, 2026. Darlene was born on Dec. 25, 1935 to the late Ted and Lillian (McCartney) Anderson.
Darlene grew up in the Gilman area. On Aug. 22, 1953 Darlene married the love of her life, Clarence Nichols.
Clarence and Darlene Moved to Ladysmith for nine years before returning to Gilman. Darlene received her bachelor’s degree and became a teacher Darlene taught for 30 plus years. After Darlene retired she continued her love for teaching and would sub at local schools. Most knew her as Mrs. Nichols however her proudest titles were Mom and Grandma. Darlene loved her family more than words could express, Darlene will always be remembered for her cookie jar. She made sure the kids’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren always had cookies.
Darlene had a passion for reading and was involved in the Gilman Library for many years. She loved flowers; she had beautiful flower beds and a big garden she tended to every summer. Clarence and Darlene in

their later years would enjoy sitting outside taking in nature and its beauty.
Darlene and Clarence would travel; they would take trips in the summers, their last adventure was to Alaska on a cruise. It may have been their last adventure due to the fact Clarence forgot to grab Darlene’s suitcase of clothes.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Mravik; and her son, Scott Nichols, both of Gilman; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Todd) Zawacki, Philip (Heidi) Nichols, Doug (Hillary) Nichols, Derek (Becky) Nichols, Rachel (Chad) Kowalczyk, Aleece (Dakota) Fasbender, Brad (Irina) Mravik; 25 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Trevor Zawacki, Kaylee O’Malley, Kaydon, Kinlee and Kambrey Horacek and Keagan Fasbender, Mya and Joseph Serrano, Jade (Ryan) Ogorzalek, Rochelle, Bryce, Xander, Ryleigh and Mason Nichols, Connor and Sawyer Nichols and Cade, Croix, Vayda and Behrett Kowalczyk, Daniel Brooks, Milana and Nikolai Mravik; one great-great-granddaughter, Madelynn.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence (2021); her infant son, Daniel; and her brothers, Ken, Ron and Charles.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at New Hope Presbyterian Church-Hannibal with Pastor Beverly Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery. A meal at New Hope will follow. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Gilman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
