Dr. Mary Rose Scharmach
1931-2026
Dr. Mary Rose (Wimmer) Scharmach, 94, of Wauwatosa, formerly of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at St. Camillus Senior Living. Born on May 11, 1931, in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Theodore J. and Agnes P. (Helmich) Wimmer. She attended Holy Rosary in Medford; St. Joseph High School in Milwaukee; Alverno College where she earned her bachelor’s degree, then St. Bonaventure University in N.Y., where she earned her master degree of the arts; then University of WI-Milwaukee where she earned her masters of science degree; and then Marquette University where she earned her doctorate degree.
Mary lived in Medford, from 1931 until 1945; then Milwaukee, from 1945-1952; then Chicago, Ill. from 1952-1954; then New York City-Manhattan from 1954-1963; then Kenosha, from 1963-1968; Milwaukee from 1968-1972, then Kenosha, from 1972 until moving to Wauwatosa, in 2014.
On Jan. 22, 1972, she married Leonard Robert Scharmach at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lanark.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church when she lived in Kenosha. She was employed by Kenosha Unified School District as a school counselor for 25 years, until her retirement in 1997. Previously, she was employed by Messmer High School in Milwaukee for 20 years.
Mary is survived by her husband, Leonard Scharmach, of Wauwatosa; two siblings, Pat “Agnes” Pire, and David H. Wimmer; nieces and nephews, and other special family members and friends.
She was also preceded in death by nine brothers, Raymond J. Wimmer, Howard J. Wimmer, Eugene P. Wimmer, Theodore G. Wimmer, Edmund J. Wimmer, Robert E. Wimmer, Donald H. Wimmer, William L. Wimmer, and Thomas C. Wimmer; and one sister, Elizabeth A. Smith.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. Camillus in the Guardian Angel Chapel, 10101 W Wisconsin Ave., Wauwatosa, WI, 53226, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery and Mausoleum in Pleasant Prairie, will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Alverno College, Jesuits at St Camillus, or St. Camillus Foundation (for the missions) would be appreciated by the family.
