Bernita Jane Neumann


Bernita Jane Neumann, 91, of Dorchester, formerly of Medford, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2025 at The Homeplace of Dorchester surrounded by her family and while under the care of Hope Hospice. She was born Feb. 24, 1934 in Medford to Albert and Inge (Gehrig) Frischman. She graduated from Medford High School in 1952.
On Aug. 4, 1956, Bernita married Roland Neumann. They lived in Milwaukee for a short time until moving back to Medford where Bernita worked at the Taylor County courthouse doing administrative work.
In 1972, she and Roland purchased a dairy farm in Whittlesey. Bernita helped on the farm while raising their four children.
She was a member of Whittlesey Homemakers, and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and helped in many other capacities as well. She also enjoyed working the polls during elections, performing hearing tests for the county, and being a classroom helper at Medford Elementary School as “Grandma Bernita.”

She will be missed by her three children, Bruce (Lorie) Neumann, of McFarland, Brad (Cindy) Neumann of Medford, Janet (Dean) Brost, of Medford; a brother, Leon Frischman, of Escanaba, Mich.; grandchildren, Patrick Neumann, Connie (Allan) Kestler, Tonya (Rich Hankison) Neumann, Amanda Neumann, Madelyn, Lilly and Sophie Brost, Zoey and Ryan Neumann; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland in 2001; son, Randy; and a brother, Ronald Frischman.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Saturday at the church.
Bernita’s family would like to thank the staff members at Country Gardens in Medford, The Homeplace of Dorchester and Hope Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Bernita.
Memorials in Bernita’s honor may go to Trinity Lutheran Church or to Hope Hospice.
