Mildred Kruger

Mildred E. Kruger (Leichtnam), age 87, passed away on February 22, 2024, in Cedar Park, Texas. She was born at home on a rural Abbotsford farm to Albert and Edna (Liberty) Leichtnam. Her mother passed away when she was 2 weeks old, but she and her sister were raised by a very loving and capable father. She attended and graduated from Pleasant Hill Grade School and Abbotsford High School.

Sometime after graduation, she and a high school friend decided to go to Texas to visit the friend’s relatives. While there, they both found jobs and decided to stay. It was there that she met Vernon Kruger, who became her husband. They had two children, Susan and Bill. After more than 50 years of marriage, Vernon passed away in 2016.

Mildred worked for and retired from HEB Foods. She enjoyed trips to the casinos and sports, participating in bowling, watching car races, the Chicago Cubs, and Green Bay Packers. She was especially proud of owning a share in her beloved Packers.

Mildred is survived by daughter, Susan (Todd) Barry; son, Bill (Deb); grandchildren: Jacob (Shelby), Nikki (Courtland) Bage, Jonathon and Ethan; a great-grandson, Hudson, and sister, Ruth Leichtnam; niece, Ginny Gauerke; nephews: Kasper, Mike and Steve Knab, and a cousin, Lucille Brandner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Leah, brother Archie and grandson Nathan.

Services and burial will take place at a later date at a Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Texas, next to her husband.
