Richard Hunsader

Richard “Dick” Edward Hunsader, age 89, a long-time resident of Dorchester, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Born on December 26, 1934, Richard graduated from Algoma High School in 1952. He ran the Rankin Cheese Factory and served in the U.S. Army Reserve before marrying Joan Blahnik on May 12, 1959. They ran the Cloverdale Cheese Factory from 1960 through 1972 before moving to Dorchester. Dick worked for the U.S. Postal Service and served as the postmaster in Stetsonville from 1986 to 2000.

Dick believed in community service and was active in the Lions Club for many years, where he was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow. He also served as president for the village of Dorchester and enjoyed working in many roles and projects for Dorchester Days and the Dorchester Park.

Dick is survived by children: Steven (Julie) Hunsader and Mark (Meg) Hunsader; four grandchildren: Caskey, Erin (Ross) Witucki, Jude and Evan; two greatgrandchildren: Lily and Joe, and his brother David.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; parents, Edward and Ruth (Cepek); his brother, Ken and sister, Diane.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Interment to follow at the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the Dorchester American Legion Post #517. Family and friends are welcome from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Dorchester Park Corporation in Dick’s memory.
