Jack Neuman
Jack L. Neuman, 87, Batavia, Ill., formerly of Loyal, passed away at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Ill., on Monday, May 29, 2023. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh officiated with burial following in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Morgan Neuman, Spencer Neuman, Jered Walrath, Mitch Schlagenhaft, Ken Makela and Dave Lindgren. Military rites were conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post 175. Visitation was held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Jack Lyle Neuman was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Loyal, to Harold L. “Heinie” and Viola E. (Luepke) Neuman. He was raised and received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in May of 1953. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he served in Korea from 1953 to 1956. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant and he then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April 1958, served in Vietnam, and retired in 1977 with the rank of master sergeant. Jack spent 15 years in civil service in Sacramento, Calif., where he traveled the world installing air and ground navigation system programs.
Jack was united in marriage to Judith A. Henrichs on Aug. 1, 1959, in Milwaukee. She died on April 8, 2007. They had two children who survive: his son, Mark (Sherri) and his daughter, Malinda Nebeker, both of Fairborn, Ohio. Jack later married Johanna Schmidt in November 2008 in the town of Rome, residing now in Batavia, Ill.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Morgan Neuman, Spencer Neuman and Magdalene Neuman (fiancé Jered Walrath); three great-grandchildren, Lilith, Freya and Lexington; one sister, Kay Schaefer of Marshfield; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jack was a life member of the Disabled Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was a life member of 3rd and 4th degrees of the Knights of Columbus. Jack graduated from Yuba College in Marysville, Calif., with a degree in measurement science.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; brothers, Jerry, Jan and Paul; and sisters, Karen Neuman and Jean Grisham.
