Deana Mae Hoffman

1935-2023

Deana Mae (Day) Hoffman, 87, formerly of Medford, passed away on Feb. 27, 2023.

She was born on May 22, 1935, in Cleveland Township, Taylor County to the late Dean and Doris (Williams) Day. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hannibal High School. She married Elwood G. “El” Hoffman on May 21, 1955. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2014.

Deana attended cosmetology school in Eau Claire, after high school. She worked as a hairdresser for many years. El’s career required them to live in many towns/cities throughout Wisconsin. While their children were teenagers, the family had a four-piece band, with Deana playing the keyboard. They played for weddings and other functions. After the children were grown, El’s career took them to Alaska. While living in Alaska, Deana attended the University of Alaska – Fairbanks, earning a degree in social work. When El retired they moved to Arizona where Deana worked in social work for several years. In retirement, they would return to Wisconsin for the summer months, always making a couple of visits to the family farm where Deana grew up. Deana and El both enjoyed yard sales and looking for that perfect item to add to their home. Deana also kept her eyes open for just the right piece of jewelry while perusing yard sales. Throughout all her years, Deana enjoyed visiting family and friends and had great fun making people laugh with her wit and humor.

She is survived by her children, Sandra J. Hoffman of Dewey, Ariz., and Paul D. Hoffman of Malibu, Calif.; one granddaughter, Halley; a sister-inlaw Priscilla M. (Emry) Day; and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Elwood, Deana was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley E. (Day) Lechleitner; brother, Billy E. Day; brother- in-law, Leonard J. Lechleitner; and nephew, Alan E. Day.

A graveside service was held March 17 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen II Cemetery-Medford.
