Glenn Herrmann
Glenn C. Herrmann, 84, Minocqua, formerly of Colby, passed away at the Marshfield Medical Center on Wedneday, Feb. 3, 2021, after a short illness. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13, at First United Church of Christ in Colby. The funeral will be live-streamed on the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home’s Facebook page or after service anytime on Facebook or the website. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Colby Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. We encourage those in attendance to abide by the COVID-19 guidelines by sanitizing, wearing a mask (if able), and social distancing.
Glenn was born on Jan. 27, 1937, in the town of Colby, the son of Alfred and Elsie (nee Volkman) Herrmann. He attended Colby schools and was a 1955 graduate of Colby High School. Glenn served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-59, served in Korea, and was stationed in South Carolina and served in the reserves for two years. He enjoyed flying so much that he got his pilot’s license in the 1970s. His first marriage took place on April 10, 1964, to Darlene Pfeffer in Pine City, Minn. She preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2005. His second marriage was to Charlene Krueger in Rhinelander on Dec. 21, 2017. Glenn worked as a heavy equipment operator for Harold House Construction, James Peterson Construction and Reliance Construction, building roads all over Wisconsin. After his retirement, he worked for Harmony Co-op as a truck driver for the fertilizer plant and was a sexton for the Colby Memorial Cemetery. He also drove heavy equipment for the American Legion Camp near Minocqua. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Colby and the Operating Engineers Local 139. Glenn enjoyed traveling, flying, building model airplanes, bird-watching, and spending time with his dogs — Niles, Bumper and Elle. Glenn and Charlene loved the outdoors and nature in the Northwoods, but especially cherished the time spent with family and his three grandsons.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Charlene Krueger of Minocqua; a daughter, Peggy (Daniel) Zimmerman of Loyal; three grandsons: Luke Zimmerman of Silvis, Ill., and Ben and Zach Zimmerman of Loyal; two step-children: Mechelle (Dave) Krueger of Milwaukee and Sandra Krueger of Wausau; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Darlene; and three siblings: Richard Herrmann, Evelyn Ven Rooy and Verna Blair.
