Joseph Houk

Joseph “Joey” Daniel Houk, age 16, of Unity, passed away unexpectedly and way too soon on Friday, June 13,2025.

A public memorial gathering to share memories of Joey will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

Joey was born on February 23, Andrew and Katie (Beauchamp) Houk in Medford. He had just completed his sophomore year at Colby High School. Joey played CUDA football and baseball when he was younger. He also enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, two-cylinder John Deere tractor and farming. Joey had a plan for his future which included farming and welding.

Joey was a free spirit. Not only was he large in stature but he had a heart so big that he left a piece of him wherever he went and with whoever he met. Joey especially loved hanging with his friends. Most important to him was his family and friends and especially his niece and nephew who he loved and cared for deeply.

Joey is survived by his parents, Andy and Katie Houk of Unity; his sister, Leah (Logan) Wulff of Withee; his brother, Jonathan Houk of Unity; his nephew and niece: Jaxon “Bubbe” Wulff and Raelynn “Evil Evelyn” Wulff; his paternal grandmother, Rebecca Laatz of Palmyra; his maternal grandparents, Michael and Deborah Beauchamp of Palmyra; his aunts and uncles: Daniel Houk of Palmyra, Jennifer (David) Johnson of Palmyra, Jennifer (Bill) Philippe of Adams and David Laatz of Palmyra; cousins: Stacy and Brett Johnson, of Palmyra, Matthew Fruth of La Crosse, Emily Fruth of Minnesota and Jessica and Jamie Johnson of Adams; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ralph Houk.
