DNR Notice

State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Notice of Pending Application for Proposed Dredging Shane Wucherpfennig, on behalf of Barbara Weber, Shirley Wimmer, and Wayne Mudgett, 6800 Grant Rd, Vesper, WI 54489 has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit to remove materials from the bed of the Chequamegon Waters Flowage. The project is located in the NW1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 02, Township 31 North, Range 03 West, Town of Ford, Taylor County.

The proposed project is to dredge approximately 1,007 cubic yards of soft sediment from the Chequamegon Waters Flowage. The project is across 3 different landowners’ properties who have agreed to work together. The dredging will be done with backhoes and hauled away in dump trucks to a vacant lot with no wetlands present. The equipment will be staged only on frozen ground so no wetlands will be disturbed. A turbidity barrier will be installed in the water around the worksite to prevent sediment from displacing to other parts of the lake bed.

The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and a public informational hearing, if requested. The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11 and 30.20(2), Stats., and ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code, and ensure that the required mitigation meets the standards in s. 281.36(3r), Stats. if the project impacts wetlands.

The Department has made a tentative determination that it will issue the permit or contract for the proposed activity.
