Alexa M. Yetter, of Stevens Point, passed away at Marshfield Children’s Hospital due to cardiac arrest, on Aug. 3, 2023, at the young age of 16. Alexa was born on Nov. 8, 2006, in Stevens Point, the daughter of Eric and Lisa (Wendt) Yetter. She spent her entire life in Stevens Point, attending Madison Elementary School, then on to P.J. Jacobs Middle School, and was currently a beloved member of the Class of 2025 at Stevens Point Area High School. While Alexa’s life was far too short, the amount of accomplishments she achieved in her 16 years was extraordinary. Not only did she find great pride in volunteering; she absolutely loved it! She happily dedicated countless hours to the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County and the Keystone Club, where she was the secretary for the last two years. Some of her favorite volunteer work included Farmshed, Juneteenth Celebration, the Safety Fair at Mark Motors, the Boston School Forest and Point Pedal (the bike ride). She wasted no time filling the world with love and generosity. She may have been young, but she was an old soul. When Alexa wasn’t at school or volunteering, she spent her free time cooking, reading, playing cards and computer games, and also enjoyed camping. Above all, Alexa had a deep love for people, especially those she called family and friends. She cherished every moment with them. While she was a polite young lady, she found great humor in making people laugh with her quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor. At Christmas time, she just couldn’t resist pushing ALL of the buttons on the Christmas toys in the aisle; after all, Christmas was her favorite season! Alexa is lovingly survived by her parents, Eric and Lisa, whom she did everything with; her brother, Brandon Yetter; and a sister, Ashley Yetter. She is further survived by her maternal grandparents, Dennis and Colleen Wendt; her paternal grandfather, John Yetter; her uncles, Darren (Cyndi) Wendt and Mike (Dee) Yetter; her aunts, Julie Wendt, Jennifer Firkus and Sarah Yetter; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins, extended family and close friends. Alexa was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Rosanne Yetter; and her maternal grandmother, Diane Wendt. Richard H. Carlberg Jr., 73, Loyal, passed away on July 25, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minn. He is survived by his wife, Sally; his sons, Eric (Beth) Carlberg and Michael (Sara) Hart; and his grandchildren, Oliver, Charles and Christina. He is further survived by his siblings: Anna Rueth, Aaron (Sue) Carlberg, Dorothy Roback and Debra (Brad) Rowe; and nieces and nephew: Mary Anne (Walt) Medlock, Jen (Chris) Carlberg-George, Travis Rueth, Shana (Dustin) Kind, Kim Fleming, Jesse Rowe and Breanna Rowe. Richard was born in Valparaiso, Ind., on Feb. 15, 1950, to Richard Sr. and Irene Carlberg. Richard attended Boone Grove High School in Boone Grove, Ind., before enlisting in the Army. He served in Germany and Vietnam, where he was severely wounded by a landmine. Richard married his wife, Sally, on May 19, 1977, in Valparaiso, Ind. They moved around the country throughout the 80s, and eventually settled in Wisconsin in 1987. Later in life, Richard would describe himself as a “truck driver with a serious farming habit.” He retired from driving in his mid-sixties. A memorial will be held at noon on Oct. 21, 2023, at the American Legion Hall in Loyal, with lunch to follow. Lawrence Below, “Lugs,” 96, formerly of Spencer, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester, Minn., surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer with Rev. James Groleau officiating. He was laid to rest in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Brighton. Family and friends were invited to gather at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services. Lawrence was born June 23, 1927, on the family farm on Veefkind Road in Spencer, to Martin and Jennie (Moen) Below. As a young boy, he attended the nearby country school, worked hard on the farm and enjoyed many nearby outdoor activities like fishing and berry picking. Lawrence was active in 4-H and took great pride in the awards he received for his garden. Lawrence graduated from Spencer High School in 1945. He was a dedicated student and talented athlete who excelled at basketball. Lawrence was called to serve his country with the Army’s 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart for his injuries during combat. The experiences, injuries and sense of dedication learned during the war would affect Lawrence for the rest of his life. Lawrence worked a variety of jobs before finding his passion in the Dairy Foods Industry. He worked for Parkin Ice Cream, M& M Candy, Spencer Milk Products and Dairy Belt, before eventually working over 40 years at Land O’Lakes. Lawrence was often recognized with awards during his career. Lawrence married Marlene Toltzman on Sept. 2, 1957. They enjoyed 36 happy years of marriage before Marlene passed away in 1993. Lugs was a busy man who always “had work to do.” In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and cross-country skiing. He also enjoyed bowling and supporting the Green Bay Packers. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. Lawrence liked to be warm, often sporting a fleece vest (even in the summertime), and he would let you know if your hands were cold. He enjoyed his retirement years attending auctions, collecting antiques and spending time with his family and special friend, Inez. Lawrence is survived by his son, Kent (Krista) Below of Rochester, Minn.; his granddaughters, Kayelynn Below and Kenzie Below; special friend, Inez Fosberg of Spencer; his brother, Jerry (LaVonne) Below of Dickinson, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; brother, Arnold (Ruth) Below; sister, June (Lloyd) Hoops; and by his parents. Harvey J. Degenhardt, 90, Loyal, passed away at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen, on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, and took the Lord’s hand to walk through His heavenly gates. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Harvey James Degenhardt was born to Frank and Gertrude (Vogel) Degenhardt on Jan. 5, 1933, in Loyal. He was raised and received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 1951. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where his faith was a strong part of his life. At one time, he considered joining the seminary to devote his days to his Lord. Things changed on Sept. 18, 1951, when he was joined in marriage, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal, to Bonnie Schmidtke of rural Granton. They spent 72 years together raising a family of six children. While raising his family, Harvey worked at Borden Company, until the refrigeration plant closed. He would later retire from Land O’ Lakes of Spencer. Never sitting still for long, he was active in his community and helped wherever and whenever he could. He was a volunteer fireman and a member of the original ambulance department. For many years, he lit the skies up on the Fourth of July for the community fireworks. Harvey was also active in the Loyal Historical Society. If there was snow to be moved or a lawn that needed mowing, he was always there to lend a helping hand. In his younger years, between working and volunteering, he enjoyed his time on his ham radio and building planes. He loved woodworking with endless fix-it projects and turning unwanted items into treasures. He watched his three sons join the military and said many prayers until their safe returns home; and, he proudly saw two grandsons and one great-grandson move into military positions. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Bonnie; his children: Jim (Theresa), Arthur (Patricia), Christine (Gary) Stetz, Bruce (Shannon), Marie (Terry) Schoer, and Rosann (Kevin) Fellenz; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and two sisters: Darlene Klann and Nancy Schmidt. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Donald, Albert, and Kenneth; and one sister: Susie Kohlnhofer.
