1938-2022 Norbert V. Weiler, 84, of Medford, passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2022 at the Abbotsford Care Center while under the care of Hope Hospice and surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Stetsonville American Legion Post 519 will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Stetsonville. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. Norbert was born Apr. 23, 1938 in Athens to Theodore and Gertrude (Dassow) Weiler. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1963. On Apr. 25, 1964, Norbert married Nancy Ann Hughes at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon. They resided in the town of Little Black, and Norbert worked as a heavy equipment operator for Armin Buehler in Medford and then Melvin Companies out of Abbotsford. Norbert was known far and wide as one of the best backhoe operators who ever ran a backhoe. His expertise in backhoe operation led to an additional expertise with claw machines, which he could not pass without playing, especially if there was something inside that one of his grandchildren wanted. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Pine Creek Riders Snowmobile Club, the Stetsonville American Legion, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Norbert enjoyed playing baseball, softball and bowling. In 1961, his baseball team from Goodrich won the State Baseball Championship. Although no official records were kept, it is commonly believed that Norbert still holds the record for most career home runs in the Dairyland League. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and was known to never turn down a drag race. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Medford; children, Julie (Joe) Alioto of Wausau, Rick (Bonnie) Weiler of Athens, Patrick (Ramona) Weiler of Bloomer, Mark (Anne) Weiler of Athens; grandchildren, Christine and Ben Alioto, Dylan, Caitlin, Joshua, Makenna, Alexa, and Aiden Weiler; brother, Tom (Betsy) Weiler of Athens, Danny (Florica) Weiler of Arizona; sisters, Nancy Weiler of Wausau, Carol (Dave) Geiger of Dorchester, Beverly Fula of Menomonee Falls, Sharon (Clay) Boeger of Stratford; and many nieces and nephews. 1934-2022 Matthew Gasior, 87, of Thorp, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, surrounded by family at the Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jump River with Father Vjay Madani officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mount Nebo Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. Matt was born on Nov. 9, 1934 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Joseph and Rose (Fiedorowicz) Gasior. When Matt was two the family moved to the Sheldon area where he was raised on the family farm. He attended Sunnyside Grade School and Hannibal High School graduating in 1952. Matt then served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957, discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He attended basic training in San Francisco, Calif. and received technical training in Radar Operations in Biloxi, Miss. He was then stationed in Empire, Mich. Matt played basketball in the service against semi pro teams. This is where he met and married Trula Knight in Traverse City, Mich. on March 2, 1957. After living three years in Cleveland, Ohio and a short stint in Waukesha, Wis. they purchased the family dairy farm between Sheldon and Jump River in 1960. They raised their five children and farmed for 26 years. He then worked for the Taylor County Highway Department for 12 years until his retirement in 1998. They lived in Jump River until their move to Thorp in 2018. Matt enjoyed trapping, hunting, and ice fishing. He also liked to try his luck at the casinos. In his last years he became an avid reader of Clive Cussler novels. But mostly Matt enjoyed time with his family and was very proud of the work ethic and accomplishments that his children and grandchildren have acquired. Matthew is survived by his wife Trula of 65 years; a son, Mark (Rita) Gasior of Jump River; and daughters, Robin (Matt) Sixberry of Owen, Becky (Joe) Webster of Sun City, Ariz., Trenda (Frank) Webster of Gilman, and Rayna (Wade) Sherfield of Gilman. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew, Racey, Michael, Sloan, Emmit, Lane, and Cooper; and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Zygmond Gasior of Hawkins and Robert (Connie) of Sheldon. Samantha was born on Feb. 9, 2009 to Steve and Maranda Balciar in Chippewa Falls. She was called “P-Nut” since she was born. Samantha enjoyed horseback riding and hanging out with her friends. She was an avid swimmer and participated in swim competitions in school and swim club. She loved helping others with anything they needed. She was a loving and caring young lady. She enjoyed making her fairy garden every year. She loved helping her mom build their basement. She enjoyed snuggling with her dog, Appollo, cat, Minnie, and grandparents’ dog, King. She enjoyed riding her grandparents’ side by side, going on motorcycle rides with her grandpa and helping her grandma cook. She also enjoyed going to her Aunt Carol’s to make hay. nderson 1945-2 022 Robert “Bob” R. Anderson, 77, of Medford, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2022 at Aspirus Medford Hospital. A funeral service for Bob will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, with Pastor Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, Aug. 4 from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Bob was born to Russel and Dorothy (Knoll) in Medford on Jan. 23, 1945 (012345 as he used to say). He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Whittlesey Lions Club. He married Julaine Krug at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford on Oct. 29, 1966 and they had 55 eventful and adventurous years together. Bob graduated from Medford High School in 1963. After high school he worked for a period of time in road construction. In 1966, after his marriage, he started working in the insurance industry, winning numerous awards over the years as a top representative of many companies. As the owner of Bob Anderson Agency, he always prided himself on the personal service he gave to his policyholders, up until the time of his death. Bob was a very social person, loved talking with people, and that made him a natural salesman. He was an avid fisherman (and bar hunter), accomplished accordion player since the age of 12, enjoyed working with his wood splitter, taking Julaine for rides in the UTV with the bull horns on the front, and using his pressure washer on everything from cleaning golf balls that he picked up while mowing at the Lions Park, to especially keeping his vehicles spotless (and teaching his grandchildren how to properly clean theirs!). He was always willing to give anyone a hand and could fix anything or invent a new way of doing something. Spending time with his family and friends was the icing on the cake, especially his three grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Julaine; daughters, Kelly (Jason) Sandusky of Meridian, Idaho, Candy (Jess) Brunner of Medford; and son, Travis (Cheryl) of Wausau; grandchildren, Lainey, Jake, and Gabriella Brunner; sisters, Judy Mauritz of Marshfield, Jackie Ferrante of West Palm Beach, Fla., Penny Seidl of Portland, Ore.; brother, Richard (Jeanne) Anderson of Marshfield; brothers-in-law, Gene (Gloria) Krug and Wayne Krug, both of Medford, and Gerry (Carolyn) Krug of Sun City West, Ariz. allistel 1951-2 022 Larry “Shakie” M. Gallistel, age 71, of Tomahawk, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022. Larry attended the Prentice High School and later entered the military serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was married to Debra Dassow and together had two children. They later divorced. Larry met his significant other, Linda Oman, and shared over 20 years together before her passing in 2019. Larry enjoyed trapping and was a motorcyclist enthusiast. He loved taking rides whether it was on his Harley or in his convertible. He was proud to be a long-time member of the Lonely Few Motorcycle Club where he served as vice president for several years. Larry was involved in many charitable rides, one of his favorite being for the Children’s Miracle Network. Survivors include his son, Gene (Bethany) Gallistel; his daughter, Sadie (Tim) Ahlers; 2 brothers, Mark (Melania) Gallistel, and James (Debra Fischer) Gallistel; and his sister, Donna (Joseph) Dowden. Larry is further survived by his two grandchildren, Harlie and Brier Ahlers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Elaine; and his significant other, Linda. 1945-2022 Carmen Jean (Waldhart) Ruesch, 77, of Medford, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Cremation has been performed and no funeral service will be held. Carmen was born on June 9, 1945, to the late Hollis and Anita Waldhart (Strankman) in Medford. She graduated from Medford High School. After marriage, she stayed home with her children until they were in school. She worked at Passehl’s Drug Store, at Landwehr Mobile Homes as a secretary, and had an in-home daycare until she retired. Carmen had a loving heart for children and her pets. Carmen was united in marriage to the late Barton Vircks in September 1963, and together they had 3 children. They divorced, and she was later united in marriage to her surviving husband Tim Ruesch on Sept. 7, 1985. Carmen is survived by her husband of 36 years, Tim; three children, Lisa Pongratz of Granton, Lincoln (Melissa) Vircks of Freedom, and Lenise (fiancée Richard Cardin) Vircks of Marathon; Carmen’s stepdaughter, Jayme Malzahn and family, Colby. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicolas (fiancée Amber) Nelson, Ricky (Kylie) Pongratz, Rachel (Charlie) Hayes, Andrew (special friend: Bailey) Vircks, MJ (Brittany) Zenner, Alex (Katie) Zenner, Ben (special friend: Emma) Zenner, and Tessa Fawley; seven great-grandchildren; her brother Ron (Lois) Waldhart of Medford; two sisters, Mary Patterson of Omaha, Neb. and Carol (Bryan) Paur of Menomonie, and their families; and her aunt Velma Dietze of Medford.
