Norman D. Perrin


Norman D. Perrin, 82 years, of Medford, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Medford United Methodist Church, 287 E Allman St, Medford, WI 54451, with Pastor John Hazen officiating. Visitation will take place at the Medford United Methodist Church on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m., followed by military honors, performed by the Medford Honors Team. Norman was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was proud of the time he spent in the U.S. Army National Guard Reserves, and enjoyed being on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in 2018. He loved his family, playing cards, golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and travel. Some of his children’s fondest memories are fishing 1940-2023 with him at the family cottage, and many competitive rounds of golf at Tee Hi, where he aced hole #4 in 1992. In retirement he was able to travel to many countries and within the United States, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Norm was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Margaret (Marge) Perrin; sister, Ruby Tompkins and her husband Don; brother, Alan Perrin; parents George and Irene Perrin. He is survived by his second wife of 16 years, Ruth Wiest; Norm and Marge’s children, Mark (Kathy), Scott (Gayle), Kent (Deborah), Amy (Chris Konop), and Todd (Amanda); grandchildren, Ryan, Craig, Jon (Kelsey), Alison (Michael DeGrave), Candace (significant other, Mike), Andrew, Jack, Marlee, and Brynlee; great grandchildren, Maggie and Cal; sister, Dee (Ted) Tompkins; and sister-in-law, Caryl Perrin. Florence J. Cedzo


Florence J. Cedzo, age 89, of Rib Lake, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Rib Lake Health Services, under the care of her family, Rib Lake Health Services, and Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. Florence was born in Rhinelander, on Sept. 26, 1933, to the late Anthony and Doris (Boham) Burnett. She was married to Eugene Cedzo on July 9, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rhinelander; he passed away on Oct. 2, 2019. Florence and Eugene traveled extensively during his service with the United States Air Force. They moved to Rib Lake in 1963 then lived in Athens and Medford for some time before eventually moving back to Rib Lake. Florence had worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander and also worked for Magnuson Mink Ranch in Ogema. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, canning, shopping, going out to dinner, and watching her soap operas and game shows. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Cathy (Dennis) 1933-2023 Scheithauer, and Nancy (Ray) Duerr; her grandchildren, Justin (Laura) Peterson, and Morgan and Hailey Duerr; her great-grandchildren, Easton, Vaeta Mae, and Jaisyn Peterson, Braxten Grajkowski, Brady, Tatum, Donovan, Carter, and Josie Scheithauer, and Ciara Cleveland; her brother, Tom Burnett; her sister, Rita Pringle; her brothers-in-law, John (Pat) Heiser, Jim (Delores) Heiser, and Jim Tasch; and her sisters-in-law, Alice Priser, Betty Quednow, Patty Andrea, Pearl (Sam) Tackett, and Edie (Bill) Sunderlin. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Doris; her husband, Eugene; her siblings, Alvin Burnett, Dorothy Johnson, Mary Burnett, and Lyla Lukarich; her son-in-law, Tom Peterson; her granddaughter, April Peterson; her mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law, Frank and Alice Cedzo and Louis and Alice Heiser; her brothers-in-law, Godfrey Lukarich, Kenny Johnson, Kelvin Priser, Art Andrea, Frank Quednow, and Robert Heiser; and her sistersin-law, Theresa Burnett and Catherine Tasch. Marilyn Jean Mitzlaff


1936-2023 Marilyn Jean Mitzlaff, age 87 of Jump River, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023 at her home with her loving husband Robert of 62 years and her loving daughter Christie by her side under Hospice care. Gravesite services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River, with Pastor Joey Olsen officiating. Marilyn was born March 25, 1936, in Milwaukee, to Chester and Esther (Leichtfuss) Turner. She married Robert Sept. 16, 1961, in Milwaukee. They moved to Jump River in 1968 to take over the family farm. An addition to the family was born to them in 1963, and they named her Christie Diane Mitzlaff. Marilyn worked for Northwestern National Insurance as IBM operator in Milwaukee and when they moved to Jump River she worked on the farm and at R & W Novelty in Glen Flora for many years from which she retired. She was also the owner of Small Town Crafts. She made beautiful wreaths and roping for Christmas, quilting and many craft items which she sold at craft shows around the country. Marilyn enjoyed quilt making, crafts, woodworking and gardening. She was a very talented woman. Marilyn was a lifetime member of the Colby VFW #2227. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Robert of Jump River; and her daughter, Christie of Gold Canyon, Ariz. She was the proud grandmother of Anthony (Megan) Brooks, Jennifer Brooks and Kevin Richard who died in infancy. She loved her great-grandchildren Rohan and Layton Brooks. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin; brothers, Chester and Richard; sisters Ellen, Alice and Shirley; her mother Esther; and father Chester. 1928-2023 Arnold H. Dassow, 94, of Medford, died Friday, June 2, 2023 at his home while under the care of his family and Hope Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Medford. Military honors will be provided by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and will be designated by the family at a later date. Arnold was born Oct. 14, 1928 in Medford to Henry and Bertha (Barkow) Dassow. Arnold grew up in a German speaking home and so when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, he worked as a translator and was stationed in Germany. He served honorably from 1951-1952 during the Korean War. On July 31, 1954 he married Luella Hardrath at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Unity. They resided in Medford where Arnold first worked for the Taylor County Highway Dept., then became self-employed in the logging industry. He helped family build homes, additions, and garages. Arnold was usually outside, specifically in the woods, where he enjoyed making firewood and the peace of being surrounded by nature. He also enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing and the occasional casino trip. In his final months, Arnold truly appreciated all the help he received from his family, neighbors, the nursing staff at Hope Hospice, and his friends at Meals on Wheels. He welcomed visitors and enjoyed chatting. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and being a jokester. He is survived by six children, Daniel (Kim) Dassow, Melody Jacobs, Twila (Bob Hessefort) Clarkson, Lisa (John) Jalowitz, all of Medford, Michele (Doug) Steines of Marshfield, and Vicki Dassow of Medford; daughter-in-law, Jan Dassow of Medford; a sister, Darlene Drager of Medford; sister-in-law, Audrey Hardrath of Abbotsford; grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Carly, Casey, Curtis, April, Chad, Nick, Travis, Noah, Haley and Sabryn; great-grandchildren, Nova, Elliott, Jace, Bentley, Blake, Meadow, Lily, Zayden, Zaybel, Emma, and one on the way, due in August. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Luella; his son, Arnold Jr. “Arnie” siblings, Hilbert Sr., Alvin Sr., Harold Sr., Elaine Gumz, Henry Jr., Robert Sr., Clarence, Donald, Ralph, and Ardella Dohrwardt; and a grandson, Harley Dassow. 1944-2023 Robert J. “Bob” Shook, 79, of Rib Lake, died Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Rib Lake Health Services surrounded by his family and under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 16 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake with Fr. Jayanna Kanna officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Westboro. Visitation will be from 9 a.m., until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16 at the church. Bob was born April 16, 1944 in Washington DC to David and Eleanore (Collins) Shook. He grew up in West Allis, WI and graduated from Nathan Hale High School. On June 4, 1966 he married Sharon Peltier at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Westboro. They resided in Westboro where Bob worked as a logger and had various factory jobs until completing his apprenticeship to become a union journeyman carpenter, which he did until his retirement. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, building and driving his ’32 Ford, but mostly spending time with his family, and his dog Shadow. He is survived by his two children, Julie Lake of Ogema, Tracy (Karen) Shook of Medford; siblings, Dave Shook, Beth (Ron) Mouradian, Jeff (Deb) Shook, Judy (Pat) O’Malley; grandchildren, Sierra and Colton Lake, Cassandra “Cassi” (Will) Fischer and Chelsea (Cody Baldwin) Shook; greatgranddaughter, Adeline; and one great-grandchild coming in Sept. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon on July 27, 2012; sister-in-law, Mary Shook; and his beloved dog, Shadow. James “Jim” D. Koontz


1932-2023 James “Jim” D. Koontz, 91, of Eau Claire, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at his home. Jim was born May 27, 1932 in Milwaukee, to Emanuel and Ethel (Grube) Koontz. At the age of 12, Jim moved to Westboro, where he graduated high school in 1950. After high school, Jim went on to serve in the United States Air Force where he served in Korea until 1955. From there, Jim attended the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy and served as a trooper for 26 years. After retirement as a state patrol officer, he worked for the U.S. Marshall Service. Jim was a member of the Masonic Sanctuary 347, Scottish Rite, and Tripoli Shriner. Jim was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed duck hunting with his special friend Tim. Jim enjoyed cooking and preparing family dinners. Jim is survived by his children, Dennis (Becky) Koontz of Eau Claire, David Koontz of Eau Claire, Julie Engfer of Ogema; grandchildren, Adam Koontz of Fall Creek, Geoffrey (Melissa) Koontz of Eau Claire, Thomas Seidl of Ogema; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; daughter, Barbara; son-in-law, Gregg Engfer; and brothers, Jerry and Allan. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday June 3, at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 3735 Jeffers Road, Eau Claire. Pastor David Irgens will officiate. 1940-2023 Patricia “Pat” M. Johnson, 82, of Medford, passed away at home on Monday, May 22, 2023, surrounded by family, under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service for Pat will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Nancy Amacher officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Pat was born on Sept. 3, 1940 in Medford to Albert and Iola (Westrich) Meyer. She married Clement “Clem” Johnson on Nov. 7, 1959. She was a homemaker, raising four children. She loved to travel and visited every state west of the Mississippi, including Alaska. She loved spending time by the campfire at the cabin watching the wildlife. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden. Her greatest loves in life were her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. Pat is survived by her husband, Clem; children, Lynne Blume of Owen, Sandra (Irv) Neuman and Ginger (Jay) Kleist, both of Medford, and Timothy (Melanie) Johnson of Kirksville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Pat is further survived by her brothers, Harvey Meyer of Chippewa Falls and Jerry (Nancy) Meyer of Sharon. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronnie Meyer; sister, Betty Clarke; and son-in-law, Vince Blume.
