Honoring his 70 continuous years with the American Legion, Harold Moldrem received a plaque and certificate from the Cadott post. Moldrem is also a volunteer on the local fire department.

After 70 years of continuous membership in the American Legion, Harold Moldrem was presented a plaque and certificate July 12, from Cadott American Legion Post 159 Commander Richard VanderMolen.

Moldrem enlisted in the Navy in 1945, and served on two Essex Class Aircraft carriers, the CV15 Randolph and CV47 Philippine Sea. These Essex Class Aircraft Carriers were two of 24 built to serve in World War II.

On the carriers, he worked in the engineering department in the boiler room. Moldrem was in charge of the steam drum and he had to make sure the water level was at a certain level, even though the ship would roll. The boiler was two stories high and he worked on the second level.

Moldrem will turn 94 years old this July, and was married to his wife, Phyllis, for for 66 years, from 1950-2016, when she passed away. They have four children – Brenda, Susan, Mark and Keith, and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

During his life, Moldrem worked for the post office from 1949, until he retired in 1987. He was a senior distribution clerk and later, a letter carrier.

“The people on my route could set their watch by me – I was never late,” he said.

Moldrem also served with the Cadott Volunteer Fire Department, from 1954 until present.
