Full slate of activities planned for Spencerama Days


Those looking for something to do this weekend need look no further than Spencerama Days, with music, food, games and other activities planned to entertain young and old alike. Events are as follows. All activities are in the Lions Park unless otherwise stated.
Friday, June 9 The June Dairy Breakfast sponsored by the Spencer Area Chamber of Commerce will take place from 5-10 a.m.
Activities resume in the evening with an opening flag ceremony conducted by the Spencer American Legion Post 298 at 5 p.m. Following the ceremony, the Legion will hold a spaghetti dinner, until the food is gone. From 5-7 p.m., Bill Hoes will give hay rides.
Also, from 5-8 p.m., there will be food vendors, craft and product vendors, kids’ games and bounce houses, and water ball. Trinity Lutheran Church will sell A& W floats and ice cream for the Spencer Food Pantry from 5-8:30 p.m.
The beer tent supporting Spencerama Days will be open from 5-11 p.m. Spicy Tie Band will perform music from 7:30-11 p.m.
Saturday, June 10 The day will kick off with a rib cook-off. Smoking begins at 7 a.m. From 7-11 a.m., there will be a stage fundraiser breakfast, including egg scrambles, pancakes, ham, hashbrown casserole and fresh donuts sold separately. Trinity Lutheran Church will once again sell root beer floats to support the food pantry, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
From 10 a.m.-7 p.m., there will again be hay rides, craft and product vendors, kids’ games and bounce houses, and water ball. The beer tent will be open from 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
Trailblazer Campers will have an open house at 405 W. Cedar St. from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Citizens State Bank of Loyal will host a coin find at 10:30 a.m. The food vendors will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Also from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., the Spencer Women’s Club will hold a basket raffle. The drawing will be at 8 p.m.
Activities will continue in the afternoon. Test of Time will perform on the main stage from 12-3 p.m. In addition, there will be a bean bag tournament supporting Spencer Kids Group, with registration at noon and the tournament starting at 1 p.m. The Spencer Area Historical Museum, 117 E. Clark St., will be open from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Rib cook-off judging will take place at 3 p.m.
Pat Lekie and Friends will provide music in the gazebo from 3:30-6:30 p.m. The evening will wrap up with a performance by The Dweebs on the main stage from 7-11 p.m.
Sunday, June 11 The Spencer Lions Club will host a breakfast from 7-11 a.m., including pancakes, eggs and sausage. There will be coffee and a prayer at 7:30 a.m. After that, at 8:30 a.m., there will be a community church service with the band Breaking Chains. Also that morning will be the “Cars in the Park” car show supporting Spencer Kids Group. Registration will take place from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., with the show from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Trinity Lutheran Church will again sell root beer floats to support the food pantry, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The church will also host a bake sale for Trinity’s seminary fund during the same time frame.
Area royalty will host a Queen’s Tea at 10 a.m. in the village hall meeting room, hosted by the Spencer
Enjoying some puppy love
Graynnger Dayton is happy to hold a puppy as part of the petting zoo at the Granton Dairy Breakfast Sunday. The event brought lots of smiles with activities for kids, live music and, of course, a hearty breakfast made by the Granton FFA and FFAAlumni. For more pictures, see page 28.

Following the parade until 4 p.m., there will again be hay rides, craft and product vendors, kids’ games and bounce houses, and water ball. The Jerry Schmidt Band will perform from 1:30-4 p.m. Also, inside the Lions shelter, people will have the chance to play bingo to benefit the Loyal Splash Pad from 2-4 p.m.
Additional information Food vendors, besides those already mentioned, will be: Spencer Swamp Stompers selling brats, burgers, hot dogs, fries, cheese curds, pulled pork and soda; Jamaican Kitchens offering Jamaican jerk chicken, jerk pork, roast beef, rice, beans, sandwiches, dinner plates and drinks; Razor J’s selling kettle corn, caramel corn, gyros, lemonade and iced tea; KamBray’s Mobile Restaurant, with the menu to be determined; Sweet Adelines selling cream puffs, Saturday and Sunday only; Severts Fine Foods selling Philly steak, chicken Sloppy Joes, specialty burgers, onion rings, deep fried mushrooms and pickles; and “The Crew” selling walking tacos and nachos on Sunday only.

The Miss Spencerama queen crowning will be Aug. 16 at Music in the Park.
