All ages were decked out in patriotic gear, July 3, for Cornell’s annual Independence Day event, celebrating America’s 250th birthday in grand style. The night featured a parade on Main Street, with onlookers crowding the streets, a street dance, with a live band and a community fireworks display, at Mill Yard Park, with the setting down near the river feeling like “one big family,” according to some young adult visitors from Minnesota. Crash with injury
On July 20 at 1:58 p.m., a vehicle operated by Mason Marmaduke, 16, of Rib Lake, was traveling west on CTH M in the town of Greenwood. Marmaduke looked in his rear view mirror, and when he looked back up, he saw a deer, so he swerved to miss it. The vehicle operated by Marmaduke hit a mailbox on the north shoulder of CTH M. Marmaduke then over corrected. The vehicle crossed the center line and rolled over numerous times before coming to rest on its roof in the south ditch facing east. A witness observed all of this. Marmaduke was suspected of having a broken left arm/wrist and was transported by ambulance to Medford Aspirus. The vehicle was left in the ditch as it was not a road hazard.
