Burned In Gasoline Fire at Station
Jack Leichtnam suffered severe burns to his face and arm while on duty at the Skelly Oil Station. He was turning the lights on the outside pumps when an explosion occurred.
Polio Victims Improve
Mary Lynn Kiviko, 8, was reported improved at the County Isolation Hospital at Wausau, where she was taken with polio. There was no paralysis evident.

Abby intersection safety meet scheduled
Studies are currently being conducted to determine the need for and best method of improving the safety of the intersection of Highways 13 and 29 in Abbotsford. There have been a significant number of accidents at the intersection.
Readiness is new program for Colby
A new readiness program for teaching pre-reading and pre-mathematics skills is scheduled to begin for 120 kindergarten children in the district.

Agriculture scholarship winners
Craig Gumz, Dorchester, and April Beran, Abbotsford, were selected by the Marathon County Agricultural Society as recipients of scholarships for their many years of fair participation.
