William “Bill” E. Bahr, 85, Stratford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 20,2025, at Marshfield Medical Center with his family by his side.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon, where military honors will be conducted by VFW Post #6352, Stratford.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, all at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford.

Bill was born on May 25,1940, in the Town of Wein, Marathon County, to Albert and Margaret (Kaser) Bahr. He grew up working and making memories on the family’s farm. After graduating from Stratford High School in 1958, he served in the United States Army as a meteorologist, stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and served in Korea. Before moving back to Wisconsin, he was a roughneck, working in Oklahoma’s oil fields.

On August 2, 1969 he was united in marriage to Betty Zopfi at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. They built a home and raised a family in Stratford.

Bill was very recognizable around Stratford with his well-worn green shirt, blue jeans and work boots. He was also known for his stubbornness and devotion to ensuring that anything he worked on was completed the right way (his way). He had various roles with the Marathon County Highway Department and mechanic for Stratford Building Supply. Throughout his life, he loved hunting, fishing, working in his woods and garden, smoking his pipe and fixing things. He was quite the storyteller and jokester. He dedicated his life to providing for his family and ensuring they had everything they needed. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Bahr-Landsea; sons: Jesse Bahr (Linda), Dennis Bahr and Albert Bahr (Maribel), and grandchildren: Mitchell, Elena and Frederick Landsea.

He is further survived by his sisters: JoAnn Weber and Mary Ann (Charles)Wallace; sister-in-law, Alice Walter-Humke and brother-in-law, Floyd Zopfi, as well as many other family members on the Bahr and Zopfi sides.

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Betty, and brothers: Willard, Wallace, Kenneth and Jim Bahr.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many friends, relatives, neighbors and healthcare staff who cared for Bill over the past few years. Your love and compassion were greatly appreciated.
