Farm Fire Loss

The fire department was called to the Don Budtke farm in the Town of Green Valley. A barn fire was blazing so furiously that the department was unable to save that building or two other nearby strucctures. The cause of the fire was unknown.

Marathon Students Ready to Hit Their Books Marathon’s 1975-76 public school term will begin on August 25. Student hours will remain as they were last year, 8:00 a.m. until 3:01 p.m.

Get Acquainted Night

The annual “Get Acquainted Night” for Stratford school employees and businesspeople of Stratford will be held at Holiday Lanes. All businesspeople, school employees, Lion members and the clergy and spouses are invited. A donation of $2 per person will be collected at the door. STRATFORD JOURNAL

SHS band director resigns

Matt Lamb resigned from his position as Stratford High School band teacher this week. The Stratford School Board held a special meeting to approve the resignation and to allow Lamb to sign a contract with a high school in Glenwood City.

Stratford student is state communicator

Katie Leick, a sophomore at Stratford High School, was one of more than 5,500 members attending Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) 2000National Leadership Conference held in Orlando, Florida. Leick was involved in number of leadership training sessions to prepare for her communication responsibilities as theWisconsin representative of FCCLA’s National Connection Team.

Eagle Scout Awards Given

An Eagle Scout award is the highest honor earned in Boy Scouting. Two young men were presented with this award in Athens, Eric Drewek and Daniel Daniels. Drewek is an eighth grade student and is interested in traveling and all sports. Daniels, is a sophomore and his hobbies are hunting and fishing.

Booster club formed

Charter members of the Edgar Booster Club elected their first executive committee. They are: president, Kathy Blair; vice president, Jim Lukasko; secretary,Mary Guralski and treasurer, Willie Schulz.

Shimmel’s clinches softball title

Shimmel’s Bar of Edgar clinched the championship of the Edgar Slo-pitch softball league with an 11-6 win over Frankfort Cheese. Their record for the summer was an undefeated 13-0. Team members are Jerry Sinz, Len Berg, Roger Rasmussen, Don Rudolph, Mark Lacke, Jeff Reiche, Russ Rasmussen, Larry Schueller, Wally Thurs, Ron Heidmann, Harry Guenther, Tony Thurs, Ed Lehman, Mike Wagener and Renee Lindner.

County will keep large board

The Marathon County Board of Supervisors voted 25-8 to keep its board size at the current 38 members, burying the issue for the foreseeable future. “Clearly, the numbers are not there to support a change,” said county administrator Mort McBain.

Grand prize winner

Tonya Steckler, 15, a junior at Marathon High School, is the grand prize winner of the Marathon County Public Library’s first Summer Teen Reading Program. Her prize was a weight lifting set. Teens who read at least three and one-half hours weekly qualified for the contest. This year’s contest theme was “MeteorRead!”

THE RECORD-REVIEW ARCHIVES

The Edgar Memorial VFW Little League team took first place honors in the tournament championship defeating Badger Basket in the bottom of an extra innings nailbiter, 3-2.The group is coached by Jordan Sinz and Stephanie Seubert.
