Superintendent’s Corner:

The Edgar School District held its budget hearing and annual meeting on June 25. While holding this meeting is required by Wisconsin law, it also provides a valuable opportunity for the board of education and community members to come together to hear updates, ask questions, and review the district’s financial forecast. For a small, rural district like ours, it’s another reminder that collaboration and communication with the community are very important.
The annual budget is also presented at this meeting and reflects the best projections available for the upcoming school year. We know things may shift before the final budget is approved in October, when state funding amounts are finalized. Still, the presentations at the annual meeting offer an opportunity for a transparent exchange of information, which I believe is an essential part of strong planning and building ongoing trust.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to our incredible staff, who carefully manage district finances; our board members, who thoughtfully review and approve priorities; and the community members, who continue to show up, ask important questions and stay engaged.
Welcoming new, returning staff
We have much to celebrate as we prepare for the 2025–26 school year. At this time of year, we are always focused on staffing. I’m proud to report that we are fully staffed with a licensed teacher in every classroom. We are happy to welcome six energetic new teachers to our classrooms. Further, all of our special education teachers are returning, and we consider this a strong sign of dedication and stability.
These are milestones worth celebrating in today’s tight labor market. We continue to seek a custodian to round out our team.
Looking Ahead
The energy in our district is real, and it’s rooted in a shared commitment to doing what’s best for kids. This fall, we’ll launch a new strategic planning process. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with staff and community members to refine our vision and goals for the coming years.
Additionally, we will continue our focus on reading, literacy and math instruction, building on the solid work already in place. We are committed to the well-being of both students and staff, recognizing that a supportive and respectful environment is essential for learning to flourish.
In August, we will dedicate an entire week to curriculum development, with a continued focus on mathematics. This dedicated time allows teachers to collaborate on curriculum implementation, learning targets and instructional planning.
Looking even further ahead, this school year will serve as a preparatory year for reviewing our elective curriculum, ensuring our offerings continue to meet the needs and interests of our students.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Community support is, and will always continue to be, essential to our district’s success.
