At long last, ground was officially broken, June 30, to begin the building process of the new Cadott Community Library. The 9,000 square foot library, with zero entry doors, will reflect what is most needed, focusing on media rooms and welcoming areas for all ages, where people can gather, create and connect.

It’s designed to be efficient, inclusive and adaptable, ready to evolve with the community for the next 100 years. However, it hasn’t been an easy journey to get to this point.

“This project’s been years in the making,” said Corey Scheidler, with Cedar Corp., who is overseeing the project.”

It was June of 2010, when Scheidler and the Library Building Committee first explored getting a new library. In the 15 years that followed, they looked at options of renovation, relocating and new construction.

Finally, the site along State Hwy. 27 was selected and the only thing left, was to secure funding. That came in the form of a $3.7 million Flexible Facilities Grant, that was awarded from federal money.

“Buildings like this – they don’t just happen,” said Luke Rykal, with Hoeft Builders and Cadott graduate.

Rykal, having worked on many projects, knows it’s not just about picking a piece of land. There are many components, such as writing the grant, choosing the design and making sure the building fits the community’s needs.

“It’s an honor to be chosen to be a part of the team and see Cadott grow,” said Rykal.

Scheidler, also a Cadott native, agreed, and is excited to see what comes of the project.

“Modern libraries are so much more than places to borrow books,” said Scheidler. “This new library reflects that vision.”
