Open House
Mrs. James Weichelt (Patty Grassl) is holding an open house at her newly opened beauty shop, Hair Unlimited, in the former Stratford Finance office. There will be a showing of the new office and door prizes.
Zion News
Vacation Bible School will be held during the week of June 2-6. The theme this year is “Followers of Jesus.” Registration cards for three year olds through sixth grade are to be returned to Pastor Gauerke or Mrs. Robert Aschenbrenner.
Notice
Friday evening at the elementary cafeteria, the Stratford Scouts will hold a Smelt Fry from 4:30 – 8:30. The cost is $1.25 for adults, grades 1-8 $.75 and pre-school children free. You will be served all you can eat.

Heritage Days salutes German ancestry
Stratford residents gear up for the Heritage Days celebrations scheduled for early June. Featured events will be an ATV pull, dairy breakfast and Dorf Kapelle, a European “village band” from the Plymouth area.
Park shelter to be constructed at Klemme Reserve The Klemme Reserve was discussed at the Public Works meeting. Two new trails have been added to the area and work is under way to construct a new park shelter with pit toilets. The Village welcomes walkers, horseback riders, bicycles, etc.
Job training sponsors recognized
Many Stratford area businesses contributed to the Stratford High School Vocational Education program’s job training. The businesses are: Baltus, Edelweiss Cheese, Greenberg Farms, H& S Manufacturing Company, Hein Homestead Farms, Kraus Farm, Stratford Sign and the Stratford School District.

AHS graduation set
Sixty-seven seniors will graduate at Athens High School Saturday night.Valedictorian of the 1975 graduating class is Dawn Riske. She is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Bob Riske. The first speaker is John Peter, salutatorian of the graduating class. Peter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Peter.
Mother of the Year
Mrs. Lorence (Elizabeth) Daniels was honored as Mother of the Year at the annual banquet sponsored by St. Margaret’s Court 1974 of the National Catholic Society of Foresters at Athens. All 11 Daniels children were present for the banquet.
Special meeting at Marathon set
A special meeting of the Marathon area school electors has been scheduled for the purpose of authorizing the board of education to borrow a sum not to exceed $110,000 for the purpose of replacing the roof on the existing high school building.

Marathon water bills set to double
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission is proposing that Village of Marathon residential water bills double to pay for scheduled waterworks improvements, including a $1.9 million filtration and pumping station. The new water rates were discussed at theVillage of Marathon’s Utility Commission meeting.
Audit details missing church funds
An audit of parish finances at St. Anthony’s and Holy Family Catholic Churches holds Rev. Randy Olson responsible for $204,028 in missing funds, Bishop Raymond Burke told church members in a statement. Burke said all misappropriated funds from the Athens and Poniatowski churches will be returned.
Veteran carrier
Edgar Post Office rural route carrier Darlene Berg received a 25-year federal service award. Berg began her career with the post office as a substitute Route 2 rural carrier at the Edgar Post Office.
2000 – Trinity graduates
Trinity Lutheran School, Athens, recently held their 8th grade graduation. Graduates include Bobby Scheffler, Mitch Skurzewski, Brandon Zinkowich, Chris Kruger, Jenna Heier, Jessica Baumgartner, Beth Pecher, Elissa Balz, Andy Zettler, Danny Belanger, Kyle Fane, Tyler Harris and Jason Natzke. Poppy princess
Marathon Legion Auxiliary Poppy Princess Kristin Matthiae read a poem promoting the sale of poppies for disabled veterans during Memorial Day ceremonies.
