The Loyal American Legion Auxiliary Post 175 held a meeting May 13. The meeting was called to order by President Jackie Rowley at 7:30 p.m. It opened with prayer, a moment of silence for deceased members, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Preamble.

There were no guests. Gladys Zuelhke had a May birthday. Roll call was taken, with 14 members present.

The secretary’s report was read by Julie Poehnelt and approved as read. The treasurer’s report was read by Norma Wentzel and approved as read.

The sunshine report was as follows: Barb Lucht sent a “thinking of you” card to Diana Hayes. She also sent a “thank you” to Norm Wolf for sharing his story about the 50 years of the American Legion.

Rowley read a thank you from St. Anthony staff for the teacher appreciation basket and she thanked all the members who volunteered in April for fish fries and the steak feed, and for those who made cookies or bars for the 50-year celebration. She thanked Poehnelt for making and delivering teacher appreciation baskets.

She also shared information from her time at the Spring Conference. The Fall Joint District Meeting will be held in Loyal on Sept. 20. The Auxiliary will need to make raffle baskets.

The Camp Tomahawk bus will leave at 7 a.m. on June 4.

Upcoming events as of the meeting were the Senior Banquet on May 14 and the blood drive on May 28. Volunteers are Christine Geier, Kris Schultz, Donna Langfeldt, and Bob Hannum.

May 26 was the Memorial Day Service at the cemetery at 10 a.m. Poehnelt handed out the August calendar raffle tickets, brought up idea of making cake kits for the Loyal Food Pantry, and she placed a grave marker on Arlene Miller’s grave and gave one to the Lyla Thorson family.

Rowley will be stepping down as president and Jodi Lindner will be president for the next two years.

Poehnelt won the $10 drawing. The next meeting is June 10 at 7:30 p.m. Chaplain Langfeldt offered a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
