Raiders softball wins eight straight games

Marathon’s varsity softball team won both of its games, 13-3 against host Waupaca in five innings and 7-2 against Iola-Scandinavia, during Saturday’s tournament. Marathon then beat Pittsville, 16-6 in six innings during Monday’s home game to earn its eighth consecutive win this season.
The Red Raiders won Friday’s home doubleheader, 7-2 against Phillips and 160 against Newman Catholic in three innings. Marathon sophomore Ripley Skrzypchak belted a home run in the first inning against Phillips and she led the team with three RBIs. Sophomore Allison Podjaski struck out nine batters and only gave up three hits and no earned runs to earn the pitching win against the Loggers.
Marathon freshman Tyla Beilke-Seubert struck out two batters while only giving up two hits and no walks or runs to earn the pitching win against the Cardinals. Beilke-Seubert was also the winning pitcher against Waupaca. Podjaski struck out 14 batters to earn the pitching victory against Iola-Scandinavia.
Red Raiders junior centerfielder Mylee Haehlke smacked a two-run homer in the win against Pittsville. Podjaski doubled twice and she struck out nine batters to earn the pitching win.
Marathon improves its overall record to 14-7 this season and begins the WIAA Division 4 playoffs with a home regional semifinal against Edgar at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at Marathon Veterans Park.
Tigers earn No. 1 seed
Stratford’s varsity softball squad beat Rib Lake, 11-1, in five innings during Friday’s home game. Senior Laney Pankratz struck out six batters to earn the pitching win. Senior catcher Emma Roeper led the Tigers with three RBIs.
The Tigers then downed the Wausau East Lumberjacks, 9-3, during Monday’s home game. Pankratz struck out eight batters to earn the complete-game pitching win. Sophomore centerfielder Carly Pankratz, junior left fielder MyKayla Stueber and senior third baseman Abbi Lewerenz led Stratford with two RBIs apiece.
Stratford improves its overall record to 16-7 this season and was awarded a No. 1 seed in the WIAA Division 4 playoffs. Stratford will play the winner of Thursday’s regional quarterfinal between Cadott and Spencer in Tuesday’s home regional semifinal.
Wildcats drop a pair
Edgar’s varsity softball team lost both of its home games on Friday, 9-2 against Auburndale and 9-4 against Chequamegon.
Sophomore right fielder Jorja Knetter had Edgar’s only two hits, including a triple, against Auburndale and senior left fielder Riley Mueller had the team’s lone RBI. Edgar sophomore catcher Alyssa Kolano batted two for four with a double and three RBIs against Chequamegon.
Edgar currently has an 11-12 overall record this season.
