Marathon’s varsity boys track and field team won Monday’s home Marawood Conference championship by 10 points against Stratford to halt the Tigers’ streak of winning three straight conference titles. Stratford’s varsity girls track and field squad beat Marathon by less than three points to win back-to-back Marawood Conference championships.

Red Raiders head coach Curt Miller said it was a “super exciting meet for both our boys and girls.”

“Our girls team was seeded to finish fifth in the conference with 72 points, and scored 98.3 to be just shy of Stratford for the win,” he said. “It’s actually our ninth consecutive top-two finish in the conference for the girls program. The boys battled and competed great all night. Chris Marcell broke the conference record in both the shot put with 61 feet, 6-1/2 inches and discus with 203 feet, four inches. His shot put throw also broke the school record.”

Marcell, a junior, and Stratford senior Jett Schoenherr were awarded Marawood Conference boys MVPs. Schoenherr won the 100 and 200-meter dashes and helped his 4x100-meter relay team take first place.

Athens senior Malaina Telschow and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption junior Bella Thomas were awarded Marawood Conference girls MVPs. Telschow won the girls pole vault and broke the Marawood Conference record by clearing 11 feet, four inches. Thomas won the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes.

Bluejays senior Kyle Schreiner won the boys pole vault by clearing 14 feet. Edgar senior Austin Schreiber pole vaulted 13 feet, three inches to break Jake Knetter’s record set in 2004. Schreiber placed second behind Schreiner at conference. Marathon senior River Stanecki took third place in the boys pole vault with 13 feet, three inches.

Athens sophomore Ellis Baer broke the school record with a time of 5:31.89 in the girls 1,600-meter run at conference. Marathon senior Shilo Blake placed fourth in 5:30.99 while Baer was fifth in the event.

Edgar sophomore Rachel Burke won the girls long jump with 17 feet, 1/2 inch. Stratford sophomore Brianna Sheridan took second place with 16 feet, 8-3/4 inches and Edgar freshman Shiloh Karlen was third with 16 feet, 6-3/4 inches. Edgar senior Ty Schnelle placed third in the boys long jump with 20 feet, 1-1/2 inches.

Karlen placed second in the girls triple jump with 34 feet and Burke was third with 33 feet, two inches.

Athens junior Sy’Rih Hartwig won both the girls discus with 119 feet, 11 inches and shot put with 40 feet, 11 inches. Edgar sophomore Makita Ellenbecker placed See MARAWOOD TRACK/ page 13

third in the discus with 110 feet, seven inches. Marathon junior Emma Love placed third in the shot put with 31 feet, eight inches. Cole Hartmann of Athens placed second in the boys discus with 136 feet, two inches and Tyler Budtke of Stratford placed third in the boys shot put with 46 feet, 1/2 inch.

Marathon freshman Bristal Bauman placed second in the girls pole vault with nine feet and Grace Schreiner of Athens was third with nine feet. Izzy Vardon of Marathon placed second in the girls high jump with four feet, 10 inches. Marathon boys high jumpers Cael Riesgraf placed second with six feet and Garrett Bracewell was third with six feet.

Connor Kraft of Stratford won the boys triple jump with 43 feet, four inches. Edgar junior Tucker Streit placed second with 41 feet, 10-1/4 inches and Stratford senior Brandon Knetter was third with 41 feet, nine inches. Streit won the boys 110meter hurdles in 15.17 seconds while Marathon sophomore Garrett Bracewell placed second in 15.49 and Marathon senior Logan Witberler was third in 15.97. Sophia Kleist of Marathon placed third in the girls 100-meter hurdles in 19.06 seconds. Bracewell won the boys 300-meter hurdles in 40.35 seconds and Streit placed second in 41.90.

Stratford senior Cree DeFoe won the boys 1,600-meter run in 4:38.34. Marathon’s Brady Annis placed second in 4:47.78 and Logan Peters was third in 4:52.29. DeFoe also won the 3,200-meter run in 9:59.64 while Peters placed third in 10:24.46. Stratford senior Kayla Casperson won the girls 3,200-meter run in 12:11.97 while Athens senior Brianna Sheahan placed third in 12:15.93.

Jett Schoenherr won the boys 100-meter dash in 11.39 and Fred Tylinski of Marathon placed third in 11.80. Schoenherr also won the 200-meter dash in 23.46 seconds and his teammate, Zander Zawislan, placed third in 23.93. Stratford sophomore Brianna Sheridan took second place in the girls 100-meter dash in 13.09 seconds and her teammate, Morgan Schmidt, was third in 13.89. Sheridan placed second in the girls 200-meter dash in 27.09 seconds and her freshman teammate, Wynn Schoenherr, was third in 29.17.

Marathon senior Levi Krautkramer took second place in the boys 400-meter dash in 52.56 seconds and Austin Niehaus of Stratford was third in 53.24. Dawnyel Martin of Stratford placed second in the girls 300-meter hurdles in 50.10 seconds. Brady Annis of Marathon won the boys 800-meter run in 2:05.86 and Garrett Zuelke of Stratford was third in 2:06.50.

The Stratford girls 4x200-meter relay of Wynn Schoenherr, Martin, Lillian Kaiser and Schmidt took first place in 1:52.03. The Edgar boys 4x200-meter relay of Schreiber, Schnelle, Landon Lukasko and Caius Higgins took first place in 1:33.79.

Stratford’s 4x100-meter girls relay of Schoenherr, Martin, Kaiser and Sheridan placed first in 51.41 seconds. Stratford’s boys 4x100-meter relay of Carter Foster, Coltan Breit, Jeff Schoenherr and Zawislan placed first in 43.87 seconds. Edgar’s boys 4x400-meter relay of Schreiber, Schnelle, Streit and Kennen Van Ornum placed first in 3:30.76.
