Local Memorial Day ceremonies planned

On May 26, several local Legions and The Highground Veterans Memorial Park have ceremonies planned for the observance of Memorial Day.
The activities for Memorial Day will begin at 10 a.m. for both the Loyal Legion Post 175 and the Greenwood Legion Wallis-Hinker-Brux Post 238. The ceremony for the Loyal ceremony will be held at the Loyal City Cemetery (with the event moved into the Loyal High School in the event of rain) while the Greenwood ceremony will be held at Greenwood High School, with military gun salutes and clergy remarks at the local cemeteries to follow.
The Neillsville Legion Post 73 will hold its ceremonies beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a wreath toss at the Grand Avenue/Black River bridge. The ceremony will then be moved to the Neillsville cemetery, with a free cookout lunch at the Legion to follow, beginning at noon.
The Highround will be holding its 15th annual Honor Ride Motorcycle Rally, with the final portion of the ride traveling through Neillsville beginning around 2:15. The riders will all converge at the Highground and a ceremony will be held there beginning at 3 p.m. to pay respects to the fallen.
Let their memory ring Macie Wienke rings the bell in the Spencer Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday. A ceremony was held to honor the 10th anniversary of the park and reveal new veteran bricks and bell tower pavers that had been installed. For more photos from the event, please see page 16.
