Contract is Awarded to Construct Bradley Bridge
Plans are well underway to replace the Bradley bridge over the Big Eau Pleine river in the Town of Cleveland, three miles east of Stratford. Fifty per cent of estimated costs of $44,000 for engineering and right-of-way will be federal funds.
Schillinger Lectures Students For Bike Safety The Stratford Police Department talked to students about the bicycle ordinance that requires registration. At the time of registration, a sticker will be applied to the bicycle and will be inspected. All village bicycles must be at the Village Fire Station on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Legion Auxiliary To Hold Poppy Day
Members of the Auxiliary to the Hekedish-Kremin Post of the American Legion, with the help of school children, will offer poppies for sale in Stratford. Your donations to the American Legion enables us to carry out our work in rehabilitation for the Veterans and their families in the Veterans Administration hospitals.

Fire issues discussed
Fire commissioner for the Village of Stratford Dale Heil has asked that someone else be designated to approve burning permits. The Village Board approved a change to the ordinance allowing Heil to designate someone to take on that task. Heil said that he was unable to get back to residents in a timely manner regarding the permits.
Stratford High School Class of 2000
Commencement exercises will be held on May 20 at 2:00 in the SHS gymnasium for the Class of 2000. Valedictorian for the class will be Michelle Heiden and salutatorian will be Julie Karl. Class colors are royal blue and silver and the class flower is the calla lily.

Athens Prom
“Stairway to Heaven” has been chosen as the theme of the 1975 Athens High School Prom. Randy Scheffler and Crystal Apfelbeck will reign as king and queen over the festivities. Music will be by HM Varieties from 8 until 11:30 p.m.
Edgar graduation set
Commencement exercises for 84 seniors at Edgar High School will be heldWednesday evening. Sheryl Mueller is valedictorian of the class and salutatorian of the Class of 75 is Jayne Reiche. District Administrator John Hirvela will present the awards and assist with the presentation of the diplomas.
Exercises set at MHS
The graduating class of Marathon High School consists of 98 students, 20 of which are honor students. Shelley Ringle is the valedictorian of the graduating class with a perfect 4.0 grade average. Cindy Golbach is the salutatorian of the class.

Marathon staff cuts are planned
Marathon Elementary School principal Larry Perrodin told board members that the 2000-01 preliminary budget included reducing the middle school staff from six to five teachers and not filling an aide position at the elementary to meet state spending caps.
Athens survey is taking shape
By the end of May, Athens school district residents should have in hand a survey form asking them to state whether they would prefer to see Athens Elementary School and Athens High School kept separate and remodeled or combined into a single K-12 building New sludge plant
Construction workers from Eagle Construction, Wisconsin Rapids, are taking apart concrete forms from a new sludge dewatering facility at the Village of Edgar wastewater treatment plant. The $545,000 facility uses an Ashbrook belt press to remove water from treated sewage plant sludge.

Second officer
Marathon native Kory Gertschen has been hired as a second fulltime officer on the Marathon Police Department.
Gertschen has been a parttime officer in Marathon for five years as well as a parttime officer for the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

Award
This year’s recipient of the Athens Award from Community- School Connections in Athens is Arnold Schroeder.
Schroeder was a 1943 AHS graduate and has been a lifelong and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church along with several other community activities.
