Badger Selections Named

Kevin Leick and Tom Goessling will represent Stratford public schools at Badger-State this summer. Kevin and Tom are sponsored by the VFW and Lions Club. Representing Stratford high school at Badger Girls State this summer will be Alice Wenzel. Alice is sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary.

Take Math Test

Two Stratford high school students participated in a mathematics quiz bowl as part of the applied mathematics conference at UWStout. They are Steve Schneider and Bob Becher.

Bicentennial Work To Be Displayed

Mrs. Charles Krause, representative of the Stratford Bicentennial committee, has been working on the history of the Stratford area the past year, attending meetings inWausau when necessary.

Rozellville Rockets earn CAD awards

The Rozellville Rockets were called to order by vice-president Eric Voight. CAD awards went to Traelse Weber and Daniel Griesbach for acting and crafts. Heather Voight earned an award for singing solo and Mitchell Kraus earned one for a piano solo.

Forensics

St. Joseph’s School hosted the North East Rural Region Forensics competition for 6th, 7th and 8th graders from Marathon, Edgar, Athens, Mosinee and Stratford Catholic schools. Over 100 students participated. St. Joseph’s students who participated are Michael Wenzel, Heather Bohman, Kyle Leonhardt, Makayla Crownhart, Adam Knoll, Clare Schulta, Andrew Hoffman, John Knoll, Alex Zaleski, Ian Makovec, Kyle Frane, Kari Stockheimer, Ashlee Ehrike, and Amanda Jicinsky.

Donation given

The Athens Veterans of Foreign Wars post has donated a Resusci-Annie to the Athens Area Fire andAmbulance commission. It was donated at a recent meeting of the commission by Fred Borke, Commander of the Athens VFW.

Edgar girls attend convention

The 29th annual State Convention of the Wisconsin Association of the Future Homemakers of America-Hero was held in Green Lake. The Edgar chapter of the FHA-Hero was represented by Sue Schueller, Cheryl Mroczenski, Rose King, Donna Dvorak and Linda Springer. They were accompanied by advisor Mrs. Karen Schmidt.

Flag and rifle squad

The Flag and Rifle squad of Marathon High School have new uniforms purchased by the Alois Dreikosen American Legion Post 469, Marathon. The squad was formed this year and appeared at various marching performances with the band. Mrs. Renee Page and Richard Troyer are faculty advisors to the group. Michael Hodg is is the band director.

Busy Firemen

The Athens Fire Department responded to a garage fire at the Leonard Frahm farm, CTH M, Town of Bern. Athens Fire Chief Ron Lavicka said the crew quickly arrested the garage fire in progress, saving two cars parked inside. The second fire in the past week destroyed an unoccupied barn at the Arnold Riehle residence on CTH A, Town of Halsey. The barn caught fire after a garbage and brush fire got out of control.

Temporary Edgar bridge

Construction workers from Pheifer Brothers, Neenah, showed up in Edgar and unloaded steel beams that will be used to build a temporary bridge across Scotch Creek west of the existing bridge. Removal of the old “Brooklyn Bridge” is scheduled to start May 15 and is slated for completion in August.

2000 – St. Mary’s Confirmation class

Forty-one students from St. Mary’s, Marathon, Sacred Heart, Cassel, and St. Patrick’s, Halder, were confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Bishop Raymond Burke of the Diocese of La Crosse.
