E.L. Chambers Urges Farmers To Take Action The fight against the serious grasshopper infestation continues in the county with farmers resorting to the new chemical sprays, in addition to the use of the standard poison bait supplied by the county and federal governments, according to C. R. Zoerb, county agent.

State entomologist, El Chambers, Madison, visited the county last week and cautioned farmers not to delay applying either the bait or the poison spray before the ā€˜hoppers become mature. ā€œIt’s much easier and cheaper to kill the ā€˜hoppers while they are still young,ā€ he said. Delaying the control measures until the insects are mature is a losing proposition, he added, as a dense population of grasshoppers, such as prevails in the county, consume one-fourth of a ton of hay daily in the average ten acre meadow.
