CCL has plenty of summer activities

Summer Reading Program 2024

The Colby Community Library (CCL) staff is encouraging area youth and their families to enjoy the 2024 summer reading program. Over 550 students and educators visited the library for preview days last week. Everyone is welcome to pick up a program brochure and calendar filled with the events and activities the CCL has planned for the summer.

Registration will be from May 28 to June 8 at the CCL for the “Adventure Begins at Your Library” reading program for ages 3-12 and “Choose Your Adventure” for teens. Registration must be in person. To be eligible for prizes, all records, badges, booklets, and teen reviews are due back to the CCL by Monday, July 22 at 5 p.m.

Reading Record Program

We invite children ages 3-12 to join the Reading Record Program. Keep track of pages read or listened to on a reading record folder and be eligible for a prize choice from the “Campground of Prizes” at the Finale on Thursday, July 25 at 10 a.m. in the CCL outdoor amphitheater.

A minimum of 500 pages must be read or listened to and recorded to be in the prize drawings. Books need to be checked out from the Colby Community Library to be used for the reading record program. Please read at your appropriate level. You may begin checking out and reading books when you register. The earlier you register, the more pages you can read and count. Record pages and return your reading record to the CCL to be eligible for prizes. Readers reaching the 4,000 page-level Mountaineer Club will have their names in the “Campground of Prizes” drawing first; then, the drawing will move backwards through the clubs: skier, swimmer, biker, and camper, ending with the 500 page-level Hiker Club members.

Adventure Badge

Decorate an “Adventure Badge” to hang on the mural in the Community Room. Return it to the CCL to earn a chance for adventurous prizes at the Finale.

Guess and Guess S’more

Youth registered for the program are encouraged to view the “Guess and Guess S’more” display. Fill out one guess per day when you are at the library to guess the total number of individual pieces in the trailers and campground puzzle display. Those closest to the number of items, without going over, will be the winners.

STEAM Activity Booklet

Families will have fun with the STEAM Activity Booklet included in the registration bags. Complete 30 activities about science, technology, engineering, art, and math/music and fill in the blanks with what you accomplished. Prize bags will be awarded at the Finale to those successfully completing a minimum of 30 activities.

Take & Make Crafts of the Week

Each week, visit the CCL’s “Camper of Crafts” to pick up a free craft bag for at-home crafting fun sponsored by local businesses.

Rocky, the Library Snake

The CCL will have a library snake this year. Rocky will live outside by the CCL’s flagpole. Children, teens, and adults are encouraged to help Rocky grow. Find a large rock, paint it, and bring it to the library to help Rocky grow longer.

Teen Program

A TEEN summer reading program is available for ages 13-19 with the theme “Choose Your Adventure.” Stop in the library for details and to view the dozen prize packs teens have a chance to win by completing book reviews. In-person teen registration is May 28-June 8 at the library.

Adventure Playroom

The Children’s RCU Community Room contains a “Campground of Prizes” tent with a forest reading area, and it will be open for creative play or relaxing reading. StickTogethers and puzzles will also be found around the library.

Service Project

In gratitude for all the community and business support for our programs, patrons of all ages are encouraged to give back to the community. The week of July 1-3, anytime during open hours, stop in the adult portion of the RCU Community Room to create paper plate woodland creature See CCL UPDATE/ Page 13 CCL update
