From past files of The Star News 10 Years Ago April 17, 2014 City clears path for bank construction Work will soon begin on a demolition and rebuild of Nicolet National Bank’s Hwy 13 location in Medford.

Members of the planning commission approved the site plan with no questions at their meeting Monday evening. According to city planning/building inspector Bob Christensen, the project will involve two main phases.

25 Years Ago April 21, 1999 City caught without a building inspector, planner or assessor

As far as the City of Medford is concerned, the timing couldn’t have been worse for Ralph Witte to resign as building inspector/assessor. Witte, who had been the City’s building inspector for the past two years and its assessor for the last several months, resigned last month to take a similar job in Ashwaubenon. That leaves the City without a building inspector just as the summer construction season gets underway, and without an assessor just as the City starts going through its annual assessment process.

Eleven resolutions and two petitions introduced during the opening day of the Spring session of the county board were referred to various committees for recommendation Wednesday. It was anticipated at press deadlines Wednesday morning that the board would wind up the session that day.

75 Years Ago April 21, 1949 Voters Favor Forming New County Village

Yesterday’s referendum election to determine whether or not the electors favored the establishment of Stetsonville as a village carried by the overwhelming vote of 121 to 1.

The election was held at the American Legion hall in Stetsonville.

The proposal was that 224.6 acres of land taken from the towns of Deer Creek and Little Black, be established as a new village area, same to be known as Stetsonville.

100 Years Ago

April 17, 1924

The big cooling tank arrived this week at the plant of the Medford Canning Company and will soon be installed. The tank is seventy feet long; the peas pass slowly through this tank after leaving the cook house.

The cook house will be a 50X50 addition, to be built north of the main factory building; it will be started this week.

The boiler room, north of the warehouse also is being started this week.
