A thens Senior Card Group

The Senior Citizens card group met on April 11 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Three games of Sheepshead were played. Norbert Lake won first place and Pat Frank came in second in the first game. Steve Klockziem won first and Tom Ellenbecker came in second in the second game. In the third game, Andy Hoef came in first and Butch Boris finished second.

Low score went to Tom Ellenbecker.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.

Snowflake Drive

The snowflake drive order will be placed after the village board meeting on Monday, April 22. A sample of the snowflake decoration is on display insde the Athens Credit Union. Residents are asked to consider donating.

Family Story Time

Bring your entire family to Family Story Time at the new Alfred Street location of the Athens Branch Library. Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to join this 30-minute program. Library staff will read books, sing songs, and offer other literaturebased activities. Story Time events are scheduled for 10:30 to 11 a.m. on every Monday of the month in April.

Womens Club

The Edgar Womens Club met on April 9 at the Edgar Village Hall.

The members enjoyed light lunches made in decorative boxes or bags. Club members enjoyed the auction with the first one to bid having the most correct on a questionnaire.

Nanci Schillinger was elected for second term as treasurer.

The next event will be the spring banquet at LC Marathon on May 9.

The traveling prize was won by Bev Stencil. Door prizes were won by Sharon Braunel, Carol Hagen and Cathy Myszka.

The club will be holding a Bake and Book Sale on Thursday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Edgar Village Hall.

The meeting closed with a thank you to the committee for the Box Social. New members welcome..

After School Art

Kids and teens can get creative with various art supplies after school on Wednesday, April 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Edgar Branch Library (224 S. Third Ave., Edgar). The event is free, supplies will be provided and no registration required.

M arathon Rib Falls HCE

The Rib Falls Home and Community Education (HCE) metApril 10 at the home of Donna Kaldunski. Refreshments and a dessert were served, with the theme of “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” Members received beautiful favors made by Donna.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and Creed I.

Roll call was taken, with “What keeps you up at night?”

The secretary’s report and treasurer’s report were given and approved as read.

This year, the HCE County Day will be celebrating its 105th year on Wednesday, May 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wausau. The event will feature a guest speaker, along with cultural arts exhibits and a silent auction. Rib Falls HCE is in charge of name tags and the registration table, along with bringing a pan of bars and muffins.

For the April meeting, members brought “hints” to share. Members also brought cooking items to fill the Shoebox for Nicaragua which will be taken to County Day.

There will not be a May meeting as County Day is the same day. For the group’s June 12 meeting, members will tour the Historical Museum in Wausau with lunch to follow.

The meeting was adjourned with Creed II. Members listened to music and played “Name That Piece of Cake,” a synonym game, with everyone receiving prizes that coincided with the game.

Children of all ages and their parents/ caregivers are invited to join the Marathon City Branch Library for Family Story Time each Thursday in April. Participants will read books, sing songs and more during the 30-45 minutes together. Story Times are scheduled from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on April 18 and 25.

Enjoy learning with your children through stories, songs and other literature-based activities. The next Story Time is scheduled for 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday April 24.

Play & Learn: Fishing for Fun

Children’s Wisconsin Marshfield Family Resource Center will be leading a program at the Stratford Branch Libary, during which children can enjoy some indoor fishing. This activity promotes motor skills and color identification. Have some fun with your child and connect with other parents and caregivers during this educational and entertaining event. The event will be held on Monday, April 22, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
