The Marathon County Board of Supervisors is looking for someone to represent the 35th District in the rural area southwest of Wausau after supervisor Jacob Langenhahn submitted his resignation on Friday. A posting on the county’s website says that board chairman Kurt Gibbs is accepting letters of interest to fill the vacant seat for District 35, which includes the towns of Marathon and Mosinee and Ward 2 in the town of Emmet. Interested candidates should submit their letter of interest to Kim Trueblood, Marathon County Clerk, 500 Forest Street, Wausau, WI 54403, by noon on Monday, May 12. Letters can also be emailed to her at kim.trueblood @co.marathon.wi.us Gibbs said Trueblood will schedule interviews between the applicants and himself and vice-chair Chris Dickinson, with the goal of providing a recommendation to the board at its next meeting on Thursday, May 15. Once the appointment is approved, it will take effect immediately.

Whoever is appointed shall serve out the remainder of Langenhahn’s unexpired term, ending the third Tuesday of April 2026.

sion to resign, Langenhahn provided the following statement: “I’d like to thank all of the amazing people I’ve gotten to work with these past 11 years. I’d also like to thank the people of the 35th District for placing their trust in me when I was 19 years old. I’ll be forever grateful.”

“For now, the time has come for me to step away so I can focus on personal commitments. I wish Marathon County the very best. I’m thankful to call this place home.”

Langenhahn was first elected to the board in 2014, and had been serving as chairman of the Environmental Resources Committee since 2018. His father, Keith Langenhahn, had also represented District 35 in the past.

Supervisor Mike Ritter, vice-chair of the ERC, ran the committee’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, but the board will eventually have to appoint someone to be the chairman. Langenhahn was also a member of the Executive Committee, which includes the chairs of all the county’s standing committees.
