Loyal School District schedules early release Wednesdays for next school year

The Loyal School District will have a tweak to its school calendar next year that builds in weekly time for professional development. The school district recently issued a message on its Remind app for parents and guardians as well as on its website and social media informing the public of the change.

The Loyal Board of Education approved the 2024-25 school district calendar during its February board meeting. One of the changes, different from this year’s calendar, is the addition of early release days on most Wednesdays throughout the school year. Students will be dismissed around 2:40 p.m. on these Wednesdays. During this time, staff will be involved with professional development focused on professional learning communities.

“These meetings will be focused on student learning, instructional strategies and assessments, and will involve all teaching staff meeting with a team. These meetings must take place during the contracted school day. This will not change the number of school days the students will attend,” District Administrator Chris Lindner wrote in the message announcing the change.

“We understand this may cause an inconvenience to some families, so the district is looking to continue our Lil Dawgs program for any elementary student/ family that needs daycare. All other after-school programs should be able to continue at their regular times. We are providing this information now, so families can have adequate time to plan for this change.”

The message also stated that St. Anthony’s Catholic Church has been involved in the discussion.

Students taking CCD classes at the church will board the bus at the public school at the early release time and be dropped off at St. Anthony’s. CCD will start approximately at the same time as this year.

“Currently, we allow students to leave school early on CCD days so they can get to St. Anthony’s early to start CCD. This new schedule will eliminate students missing instruction time at the public school to attend CCD,” the announcement stated.
