The Loyal American Legion Auxiliary met on April 9. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble, and held a moment of silence for the fallen. Gladys Zuehlke offered a prayer.

The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. The Sunshine Committee sent a sympathy card to the Jerry Tieman family and a get well card to Dave Jacobson. They will be sending a card to June Hoeser.

The Legion Auxiliary received a thank you note for their donations to the Operation Christmas Child shoebox project. Samaritan’s Purse sent out 10 million shoeboxes from the United States this year. The Auxiliary also received a thank you from the House of Mercy for a monetary donation. The members who helped last month were thanked, as well as Tammy Cook and Jackie Rowley for making baskets for the bowling tournament.

The bi-laws and rules were reviewed. It was decided the minutes should go in the TRG. The members voted to change the dues to $35, or which $34 will go to the state and $1 to Auxiliary treasurer. Revised copies will be given to members.

The Auxiliary discussed presenting flag holders for the deceased Post members or doing something else. The Veterans Department will be contacted for more information.

The group also discussed asking the family of deceased members what charity they would like a $20 donation to be given to. This will be included in their sympathy card for them to do what they want. The Sunshine Committee will take care of this. The motion to approve rules was made by Geier, seconded by Kris Schultz. Motion carried.

The Auxiliary also scheduled workers for upcoming events: — Apr 13 funeral – Cook and Geier — April 12 fish fry — Cook and Wyatt Mulvaney — April 15 steak feed — Cook and Mulvaney — April 16 Leabel Mack funeral — Members are wear Auxiliary shirts for the prayer service.

— April 27 Zettler wedding — May 10 Last fish fry until fall — Elena Hurrell — May 15 senior banquet — Jodi Lindner and Cook — May 30 blood drive Rowley, the president, went over the year’s activities to be presented at the county meeting May 16. A motion was made by Lindner, seconded by Sharon Rogers to give a $50 donation to foster parents appreciation.

Lindner won the drawing. The next meeting will be May 14.

The meeting closed with prayer by the chaplain.

Students inducted into NHS

Last Sunday evening, the latest cohort of students were inducted into the Loyal High School National Honor Society (NHS). Students are selected for NHS based on their dedication to academics, leadership, service and character. Inductees were (front, l-r) Olivia Nikolai, Maleia Smith, Andrya Wilke, Braeleigh Suda, Summer Smith, Addysen Wolf, (back) Josiah Kayhart, Cain Toufar, Carson Bremmer, Bryce Deegan and Jarrett Rueth.
